Kaftan Hotel is an honest hotel delivering a perfectly reasonable service for a city centre location 10 minutes walk from the Blue Mosque. Neither the room nor the bathroom was large but we had clean linen on the standard Turkish hard mattress bed with the standard one pillow. The breakfast (on roof terrace overlooking the entrance tot eh Bospherous) was typical Turkish with as much as you want to eat.
Do not expect 5 star luxury but you are not paying 5 star prices. We negotiated £60 a night for the room inc breakfast
The receptionist could not be more helpful or polite.
There is a railway which is the other side of the neighbouring house but all I ever heard was the occasional low rumble in the morning. I was not aware of any night trains. I am not sure I would drive to any hotel in this location but then a car is a hinderance to visit the major tourist sites in Istanbul
If you are fed up with the crowds of the Blue Mosque etc try the little Aya Sophia Mosque and the mosaics museum. (ask the receptionist)
