“Good value, great staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2010

The Grand Orzu is comfortable, clean, with very good, average sized rooms, and pretty good value. The most important aspect of the hotel is the extremely friendly, helpful staff at the reception. For example, because I don't speak Russian, they were very helpful in dealing with taxi drivers (even when I called them from a taxi to help explain to the driver where I was going. I had to do this a number of times.) They helped me find sites and restaurants in Tashkent, and wrote names and directions in Russian so I could show drivers. Whatever my issue or problem was, they were able to handle it. The only downside to the Grand Orzu is that it is a significant distance from the metro - on the other hand, taxis in Tashkent are very cheap, and it's very close to the airport. I was in and out of Taskent three times, and stayed here each time.

“Cozy B&B, but too far from the center”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 August 2010

I stayed at this hotel for a few days due to my business trip to Tashkent. I decided to go with a smaller B&B rather than going to the big hotel. While the quality of the hotel as well as the food were fine, the location wasn't the best. They advertised it as "10 minutes from the center" hotel, however it takes much longer than that. All the retaurants and attraction places were not possible t oreach by foot, while other, central hotels offered that option. The only restaurant close-by was Caravan - be careful, its overpriced!
The rooms are a bit outdated, but lcean. To get to the restaurant of the hotel you need to pass by a yard. It was fine for me since it was summer, but imagine going outside in the snow just to have some breakfast.
Food was quite good, with variety of cold and warm meals.
All in all, this hotel was clean and cozy, but for a business trip next time I would go for a bigger, more central hotel.

“Not bad for the price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

This is an inexpensive but unimpressive option for Tashkent. The service is only okay, the restaurant is a little better than okay, and the rooms are grim. The best part is that it is near the Caravan Cafe, which has great food. I wouldn't recommend staying here more than 2-3 days. The wireless internet is only in the restaurant which has a TV blasting constantly and the wireless service is spotty.

“It was better than expected”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 May 2010

The Grand Orzu was our first experience of Uzbekistan hotels. We were booked in for 3 nights. We arrived about 9:30am on 12th May after a long journey from the UK. The staff on the front desk were friendly, helpful and spoke very good English. The only downside was the fact that despite the room rate being quoted in US$s they would only take payment in Sum. So we had to immediately go out and exchange enough dollars on the black market to pay the hotel bill.
Our room was basic but spacious and clean with a good shower.
The breakfasts were adequate and waiting staff friendly.

“OK for 1 night only”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 October 2009

I've stayed at the hotel twice in my trip. Front desk staff quite unwelcoming. Restaurant staff was helpful. Food is ok. Rooms are old and the bathroom, even though "equipped", was awful - it gets flooded eveytime you take a shower. The terrace is lovely. There is a good pastry shop nearby called "Kolosok" (it's written in cirillic something like "KOAOCOK") - Ul. Usmana Nosira 44A.
