“Absolutely amazing experience with high service level”

Spent 2 days as family of 4 with Kulu Safari. This was our first safari and didnt know what to expect, but our camping expectations will never be the same. Due to heavy rains, we were unable to stay on the original campsite along the river, but the set-up next to a pond was geat and enjoyed listening to the crickets and frogs at night. After a 45min drive deep into the park, we arrived at the campsite to be greeted with a gin&tonic being placed in our hands and relaxed before starting the first evening safari - the jeeps are some of the best used by any of the safari companies and allowed for easy viewing for all riders as well taking trails that many other companies cannot reach. It can get quite busy in the park at times and was fantastic to be able to get off the beaten path. We were continuously able to see wildlife - wild boar, spotted deer, monkeys, dancing peacocks, monitors, jackels, elephants, crocodiles, green bee eaters, painted storks, wild water buffalo and yes even a leopard (other jeeps from our tour group spotted leapords every safari drive, but we were only lucky once)....only missed the bear from our list of must see. Safari trips taken in early morning at sunrise (as in the park, beat the external tour companies and most enjoyable seeing/hearing the park awake), back late morning to a scrumptious breakfast, time for a good nap, stuffed again with lunch, off for the late afternoon safari and then back at dark for a (hot) shower, predinner drinks and wonderful candlelight dinner and good company/drinks til late into the night. Javana and his staff were very attentive to our needs and ensured that everyone was having a great time. The food quality was excellent and we can only complain that we ate too well! The tents were very comfortable and cots/sheets of good quality-slept like a rock both nights. Overall an amazing experience and many wonderful memories and extensive number of photos are now with us forever. Highly recommend booking this tour and suggest a minimum of 2 nights to ensure that get every opportunity to see all the key animals. Suggestions - bring own binoculars if you have them as there are not enough for everyone (we shared) and also best when have a guide/ranger in jeep as they are much better at spotting then most of us amateurs.

“Excellent service and great two days safari for two families”

As the location in the park was temporarily changed away from the river due to the previous floods the camp didn't have the view I understood the normal camp has but it was set up nicely in the woods. The tents were not luxurious but of good quality and very nicely set up. The food in the camp was great, all required kits available, the jeeps of high quality giving us the possibility to drive into adventurous muddy area's where others couldnt go, and from what we could see later in the park by far the best compared to other organizations, the involvement and service of all the staff excellent, make sure when you go on your safari you have the ranger with you as well, or one of the others of the team next to the driver as you will see many unexpected details with someone sitting in the back and giving you those details. You will just see a small lake he will see many animals you haven't even started spotting. We had 7 children with us so for them that aspect was great as well. We preferred the morning safaris as then you have more the feeling you are alone in the park and we spotted the most then. In the afternoon you run the risk to be confronted with many day tourists. We have seen all animals and several times including a recently died elephant being eaten by many crocodiles, a young small elephant drinking from his mother, several leopards, on different trips and in very different settings, etc the only one we missed was the bear. So overall a fantastic experience I would certainly recommend to be included in your visit to Sri Lanka !

“What a way to see in the New Year”

My wife and I visited Sri Lanka for the first time in order to attend a friend's wedding and while we were there we decided it would be good to spend a couple of days on safari. So, based on reviews here and personal recomendations from friends in Sri Lanka, we chose to spend a couple of days in the fine company of Kulu Safaris at Yala and can say that it was one of the best decisions we have made. The location is breathtaking, the sightings were excellent (helped in no small part by clearly one of the best trackers available) but more than this it was the service and hospitality of Javana Fernando and his team that made this visit truly something special. What splendid people! I have read elsewhere that Kulu provide a luxury experience but this is misleading; this is a camp after all and although the equipment is of the highest quality, you wouldn't go here for pampering. What you do get is something far more worthwhile - a beautiful unspoilt habitat, great company (we met some really lovely people while we were there), astoundingly good food (we like traditional Sri Lankan food served nice and spicy and they obliged 100%, not to mention the provision of chilled gin and tonics after each day's second safari which went down oh so well) and the peace of being well away from the pace of "normal" life. I really cannot recommend it highly enough - whatever you do when you visit Sri Lanka do not miss this.

“A really wonderful experience from a caring professional company”

We recently booked to go on a two day camping safari with Kulu Safari's in Yala Game Park in Sri Lanka. Sadly Mother Nature intervened and sent totally unexpected torrential rain which washed away the camp site we would of stayed in. Despite this Kulu Safari's did everything they could to make our holiday as good as it could be in the circumstances They immediately booked us into the best hotel they could find in the area and left their major clearing up procedures to insure that all of our safari trips went ahead as planned. The driver and the guide were both excellent and, although not the holiday we had planned, we had great fun charging through the flooded rivers and being taken to the most secluded spots to see the wildlife. We were delighted that despite the weather amongst other sitings we managed to see an elusive leopard as well as many elephant, crocodiles, wild boar, water buffalo mongeese & huge monitor lizards. The bird life is spectacular. The driver managed to take us to see the spot where the camp would normally sit and it is stunning sitting on the bank of a river surrounded by beautiful lush vegetation. They are a very professional company and we certainly plan if at all possible to return for the full camping experience with them.
