Casa Susana was a lovely find. The apartment had a modern feel with great style. It was tranquil and a place you could easily spend an afternoon reading, taking a siesta or watching the action of Galle Face Court below.

We stayed only for one night, arrived in the late afternoon and left very early but in that time both Susana and the manager were welcoming and kind (even waking us up at 4.30am for the airport... thank you!)

We felt it was a little expensive for the quality of our room compared with what we paid elsewhere. But the communal spaces and amenities were quite nice and Susana was good enough to squeeze us into a single room so we had somewhere to stay over NYE.

We arrived in Colombo after a night flight barely getting any sleep. The drive from the airport to Casa was approximately an hour and a half and I could not wait to dive into bed. We arrived at an old colonial building (Galle Face Court 2) and were a little apprehensive (I more so than the hubby) Once out of the elevator on the 4th floor we walked down a long corridor and finally rang the doorbell to the left at the very end. AAh what a surprise! We stepped into Casa Susana! It boasts of a luxurious interior, very spacious lounge and breakfast area, great windows with spectacular views and of course, Susana herself. She escorted us to our room after giving us tea as well as lots of helpful tips and information on traveling around the country. Our room was tastefully decorated, with much thought and consideration going into decorating every corner of the room. We had twin beds (unfortunately the double bed was booked) but we were not disappointed. We had 3 windows allowing lots of bright light in and the breeze up there was extremely pleasant. The bathroom was also renovated and was bright and airy with a shower that sometimes ran cold but that really woke us up! The breakfast was also very good with fresh fruits and yoghurt as well as tea/coffee and the egg of your choice given with jam/butter and toast. Casa is also centrally located - we could walk to Galle Face hotel right opposite for some tea on the patio overlooking the sea or to Raja bojun for some delicious mouth-watering fries, or to the Japenese restaurant around the corner or even right down in the same building the store Silk Wilder was worth visiting and buying unique items and great tea. We were so satisfied with Casa Susana we decided after traveling around we would return back to Colombo a day early so we could stay there again. Thanks Susana!

After entering the building you take a tiny, man operated, lift to the 4th floor and walk along a dim, not especially pleasant corridor; I wondered if I'd made a mistake. However the welcome soon put my mind at rest. I was taken through the tastefully decorated lounge/breakfast room and given the room on the left. I didn't see the other rooms, but this one was very good. High ceilings give an impression of a spacious airy apartment. There is no aircon, but I didn't find this to be a problem and the fan over the bed sufficed. The en-suite is very nice.
Breakfast is freshly prepared, fruit first then eggs, and apart from the coffee (sorry Susanna), was excellent. The location, on the Galle Road is convenient, and I was given guide books and lots of helpful advice. For food and drink I especially enjoyed the Gallery, the Barefoot cafe (good shop), the Indian restaurant (Navratna) at the Taj Sumadra hotel next door, and the Cricket Club bar(perhaps more for the boys than girls though!).
My own view would be that 2 or 3 nights is long enough in Colombo. No reason at all not to stay here.

When I arrived in Colombo, driven through the deserted streets from the Airport ..save for the homeless..and arrived at Casa Susana in the early hours of the morning, to be greeted by the grumpiest security man, and the most reluctant lift driver ( both of whom had good reason for their moods) and was ushered down a long dark corridor reminiscent of the many Prisons I have visited in my Professional years, I was wondering what I had done..! But once the door to Unit 50 on the fourth floor was opened with the biggest and most engaging smile I had seen for a long time.... I could feel the warmth and homeliness of this unique place. No TV and A/C prepared me for all that was to come in this wonderful Country, and with the windows open and the fan in action, I could smell the Sea and faintly hear the sounds of the night. Everything from then on was great..! Susanna, Mano and their array of guests made me feel so content that I had to come back , three weeks later, for a second stint whilst I took in the Third Cricket Test...with friends from Australia who were staying at the Hilton. When I ate a dodgy "hot dog" at the Cricket, and got a dose of "colombo belly" these two ladies treated me like family, and there was nothing that they wouldn't do for me....including calling their own local Doctor who was quick to treat me and get me fit for the next leg of my journey...a flight to Bali.
