“Good location, decent rooms, good value”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We booked two rooms here for three days. The price was right -- about $25 per night per room. Rooms included a fridge and a TV, and were clean and bright. One room had a decent view while the other room looked out onto a cement wall a foot away. One bathroom had an excellent water heater, while the other one was okay. One bathroom had a slow drain, while the other one was fine. The floors are slippery throughout the hotel, so do watch out when walking with socks. Both my son and my husband slipped at different times. Breakfasts (which cost about $3.50 a person) are generous: eggs, baguette, butter, jam, fruit, coffee and juice. Just don't count on getting everything together or even in order. You'll get it piecemeal and may have to remind someone to bring you this or that. The rides the reception will arrange to and from the airport are expensive at 60,000 kip ($7.50) -- we took our own meter taxi and it cost us 44,000 kip ($5.50). The lobby is quite nice and sunny -- lovely carved wooden doors, so i imagine it would be fun to relax there or out on the porch. Wifi was fine. The location is quite central and it's right next to the Monument bookstore, which is a big plus. The only really big downside to this place, really? It's in Vientiane. I found the town a big bore, with nothing much to see, but maybe i'd been spoiled by six days in Luang Prabang and was dealing with some vacation fatigue.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room or one in the front or the back -- otherwise you'll get stuck staring at a...

“Spaceful rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

My wife and me stayed four nights in Vayakorn Guesthouse. When we arrived in the evening, after a 12 hour bus trip from Luang Prabang, the reception awaited me with the reservation outstretched in his hand. A pleasuere because in another hotel, where I made a reservation nobody knew anything.I Ihad asked for a room with a view. The manager told me that unfortunately there were only rooms availible with a limited view: the building next door. I accepted such a room, so I had a big surprise we got a room with views on Vientiane. A big, spacious room, well kept, a pleasure to be as we discovered in the coming four days. The Guesthouse is next to to the tourist quarter of Vientiane. A lot of hotels, restaurants and shops, shops. The Mekong river is not very far away. There is a new boulevard. Two years ago there was nothing except some old cafes under shady trees, very nice. Now there is the world of concrete epmtiness. Vientiane has something of a outgrown village. When you take this guesthouse, be warned: you have to take your shoes off!

We booked Vayakorn Inn. They misread our reservation and ended up we had to split to stay in two different places. So they brought me here. They then told me breakfast is up to 9am. When I check out, they said I have to pay for breakfast. I didn't argue and I also won't come here again.

Room Tip: There is no lift in this place. If you get the higher floors, you walk !
