Myself & my boyfriend stayed in Babylon for 3 nights in November. Upon arrival we were moved to the balcony room on the top floor as there were no double rooms available until the following day (although we had booked in advance) we ended up staying in the balcony room & paying an extra $16 for the 3 nights. Our room was large with 2 double beds, one was as hard as concrete but the other one was fine. However the sleeping arrangements caused the most problems. We noticed that the mattress was filthy & old & the pillows were stuffed with what felt like newspaper. Bed bugs were often to be found on the sheets and around the floor...I was bitten a number of times of my arms & legs before I realised. Also fleas were to be seen on the loungers in reception where most backpackers chill out. Dont sit on these! Would recommend a sleeping bag / sleeping on beach towels instead! Breakfast was cheap, had no problems there. Location was fine as vang vien is not a big place anyway. Didnt meet the owner who I had read bad things about, however the reception staff were most helpful when our transport to vientiane failed to show and helped us make alternative arrangements. Would recommend Babylon however I have heard that there are better, cleaner & cheaper places in Vang Vien to stay.
