I stayed at this hotel (Asian Pavillion Hotel at 379 Samsenthai Rd in Vientiane, Laos) with my spouse and sister (two rooms) in November 2008 for two nights. We were in rooms 302 and 306, the rooms were a dumpster. We were deceived by the front and lobby part of the hotel. The hotel is located at a very convenient location and close to many points of interest. One hundred meter down the street is Lao Plaza hotel. The hotel is within 10 minutes walk to good restaurant establishments. The Mekong River and Ho Pra Keo is also about 10 mins walk. I would rate the hotel’s location 4.5/5.
The front lobby has a stench of smoke. The front desk staff is generally unpleasant. They are unhelpful and could not even provide us a map of the area.
We stayed in the deluxe hotel room for $30US/night with breakfast included. The room is large, creepy and awful. The room is full of ants. The sink leaks and floods the counter. The shower is molded and the shower curtain looks like it has not been changed for years. There were grime and mold on the shower curtain. The towels were thin like a dish cloth and have a sweat odor. Mold has built up in the washroom and walls of the hotel room. The room's ceiling is cracked and has molds. The bed mattress looks like it has not been changed for years. The mattress is literally lopsided and has a big ditch. The view from the room is a wall about 2 feet away from the window. The lighting in the room that casts a shadow that is creepy. I would rate the room 0/5.
In short, stay away from this hotel. The only reason why we stayed the two nights was because we could not find any hotel within the vicinity available for the second night. Also we booked for two nights and did not want the hassle from front reception oc cancelling the second night. The hotel does not have internet available and does not accept credit card payments. US$ cash only. I give this hotel an overall rating of 1.5/5. Believe me when I say staying anywhere else in Vientiane is better. My recommendation is staying in hotels by the Mekong River or around the Fountain area.
