“Stay away from this hotel!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 December 2008

I stayed at this hotel (Asian Pavillion Hotel at 379 Samsenthai Rd in Vientiane, Laos) with my spouse and sister (two rooms) in November 2008 for two nights. We were in rooms 302 and 306, the rooms were a dumpster. We were deceived by the front and lobby part of the hotel. The hotel is located at a very convenient location and close to many points of interest. One hundred meter down the street is Lao Plaza hotel. The hotel is within 10 minutes walk to good restaurant establishments. The Mekong River and Ho Pra Keo is also about 10 mins walk. I would rate the hotel’s location 4.5/5.
The front lobby has a stench of smoke. The front desk staff is generally unpleasant. They are unhelpful and could not even provide us a map of the area.
We stayed in the deluxe hotel room for $30US/night with breakfast included. The room is large, creepy and awful. The room is full of ants. The sink leaks and floods the counter. The shower is molded and the shower curtain looks like it has not been changed for years. There were grime and mold on the shower curtain. The towels were thin like a dish cloth and have a sweat odor. Mold has built up in the washroom and walls of the hotel room. The room's ceiling is cracked and has molds. The bed mattress looks like it has not been changed for years. The mattress is literally lopsided and has a big ditch. The view from the room is a wall about 2 feet away from the window. The lighting in the room that casts a shadow that is creepy. I would rate the room 0/5.
In short, stay away from this hotel. The only reason why we stayed the two nights was because we could not find any hotel within the vicinity available for the second night. Also we booked for two nights and did not want the hassle from front reception oc cancelling the second night. The hotel does not have internet available and does not accept credit card payments. US$ cash only. I give this hotel an overall rating of 1.5/5. Believe me when I say staying anywhere else in Vientiane is better. My recommendation is staying in hotels by the Mekong River or around the Fountain area.

“Shabby at the edges but comfortable & central”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 April 2008

Struggled to find accomodation in Vientiane & only after phoning around finally found a room here.
In serious need of a face lift, but staff friendly & helpful. Room clean & comfortable. Quiet but centrally located.

“OK but quiet”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2007

There was nothing extra special about this hotel. The more popular ones had been booked out and someone suggested trying it. They had tons of space and I finally ended up in a suite for $25. This suite was a very large cosy room with amenities. I never saw many people there but for the size of the hotel I wonder how they stay afloat. I was comfortable and the bath was clean. I had no view but there is not really much to see from that location.

I would like to think that the female receptionist was not trying to rob me with the rates quoted even though the sign on the counter was saying something different. The other staff members were cool and even went out of their way to get stuff done for me, deliver an important message, which I truly did appreciate, get me pizza from outside after the restaurant had closed and arrange transport for me to get to Luang Prabang at short notice. It was a nice spacious hotel and I cant figure why more people were not there as it is fairly centrally located in the town. They probably prefer the riverside.

One thing I realized later is that I should have bargained to lower the rate. It was affordable however and as I said before the staff was quite cool.

“Bad Choice”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2006

I stayed two nights at the Asian Pavilion in Vientiane in 11/2006. If you have other options - stay somewhere else. We stayed in their 'suite' for $50. I won't go into details but they tried to convince us a regular room was the suite first. The windows did not fit in the frames and there were no screens. I woke up with a dozen mosquito bites. There were little ants every where. I found the help dishonest and unpleasant. In short - if you have a choice stay somewhere else.

“More Faded less Grandure”

Whilst this was once one of The hotels of the region it has faded fast and cannot compete with the quality new hotels of SE asia and at first is a bit of a let down after being in a new hotel.

There were no traces - appart from the large room size - of the old style.

Important - it is still known as the Asian Pavillion not even the staff call it the Humduang Boutique, far less taxi drivers.

Great location 30 m from the Plaza Hotel and just round the corner from the fountain.

Run down but large rooms with working AC but only a few lights worked. The odd mozzie, some ants but no cockroches, The shower was disconnected but the one in the bath (for shorter people) worked.

Very seventies, uninspiring, fundamentally clean, friendly helpfull staff. Did not eat there.
