“Home away from Home in Vientiane, Laos”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 December 2011

Villa Manoly is like cozy, homey and like nothing else I've experienced before. It combines the old-world charm of a 1950s French colonial guesthouse with the gracious, soft-spoken hospitality of the Lao people. A winning combination in my books. It was the perfect choice for our group of 30 people as it gave us the opportunity to bond and work together while we were in Vientiane, Laos.

While it had it's major plus points, there were a few minor drawbacks. Lack of WIFI on site could have posed a problem for our tech-dependent group but fortunately, our hosts were resourceful enough to provide us with mobile routers. (Check out PlanetMax if you're in Vientiane for their innovative solutions)

The other is the "closing" time of 10 pm (stated in the Villa information card in each room). Party animals may find this a bit inconvenient.

The pros, however, truly help you overlook the minor flaws. I had a room with a small kitchenette. The rooms are spacious, uniquely decorated with antiques giving each room its own special charm. The grounds were delightful, although a but of pruning may have helped it in some areas. The staff were super friendly, very obliging and always smiling.

I would gladly recommend Villa Manoly to all my friends and colleagues, and look forward to returning often. If you're looking for a home away from home...choose Villa Manoly.

Room Tip: Each room is different and unique. They even have family suites where two rooms are connected and sh...

“good location, positive experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

We stayed here with a large group for a conference we had in Laos. Most of us, regular travelers, enjoyed Villa Manoly as it felt refreshingly different than the typical hotel we usually stay in. It had a "homy" feeling, the garden is nice, it is calm, the staff are friendly, and the rooms good. We also made use of the business meeting room which was great. There is no internet in the hotel but the city has plenty of internet cafes and most cafes offer free internet.

I will definitely stay at Villa Manoly if I come back to Laos. It is no 5 stars hotel, but it is perfect for a different kind of experience.

Room Tip: I had the room on the right side part of the building (in front of the pool)- on the ground level- w...

“Lovely hotel with a beautiful garden”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2011

I had the pleasure of staying at Villa Manoly for quite a few weeks over a number of years. It is always very beautiful here and the staff worked hard to maintain their gardens. Rooms are pretty comfortable, especially the ones that have been recently renovated. Although slightly far removed from the center of town, it's an easy walk and it makes this hotel nice and quiet. Be sure to check out Kung's Café Lao just behind this hotel for breakfast.

“it depends what you want!”

After four previous trips to Vientiane Villa Manoly would be the only hotel i would return too (excluding Rivertime eco Lodge which is out of town). I was travelling with my son , husband and mother so we had varied needs but Villa Manoly was perfect for my family with a pool, patio, big garden and staff who while very helpful and friendly left us alone.
We stayed for a month with a quick trip up to LP in the middle. The rooms where far from clean but i fixed this by cleaning it a bit myself and the lovely cleaning lady while coming everyday just gave it a quick wipe over (im not sure what she did in there every day but "not much' was the result). this is the only fault i can give Manoly and i wish they would fix it but its also a factor in all the accommadation in Lao bar the very expensive hotels i assume. We also didn't have breakfast there but went to the local bagette stalls around the corner or walked to the the near by expat/local supermarkets (with ATM). There is a little bar on the corner nearest the river which has great noodle beef soup and a great cafe run by a lovely chinese lady near the junction of roads leading out of town (10mins walk along the river but worth it)
While reading the reveiws of vientiane guesthouses its best to keep in mind what is important to you. if you want bars and nightlife (best go to thailand really) stay in town , if its a cheap bed go to a the many flea pits or if its western standard luxury there is greenpark etc but if you want to see into a bit of normal lao life and be able to relax in quiet family friendly surrounds villa manoly can't e beat.

“Quirky and charming”

My son lives in Vientiane and we asked him to find us a hotel with a pool.... and the Villa Manoly was perfect. OK, it's not 5-star but we loved its old world, slightly run-down colonial charm, magical garden and overall quirkiness. Very simple breakfast - just french bread and jam and fruit, tea or coffee, so go elsewhere to eat if you're hungry in the morning. Tuk-tuk on demand outside the hotel, short walk to the river and beautiful temple across the road. All in all it suited us perfectly. Would most definitely recommend it.
