The Day Inn might have been nice at one time, but now it is just old and tired.
My room had water stains on two walls, there are no reading lights by the bed and the bathroom floor floods when even taking a careful shower.
The bamboo furniture is well used and abused. I see no charm here !

This place is a block and a half up the street from the Nam Phou fountain (walking away from the Mekong. It is behind the big, impersonal Lao Plaza Hotel.) The building is a renovated French villa and is charming. The rooms are charming with high ceilings, bamboo/wicker furniture, and big clean bathrooms with tubs. The included breakfast was tasty and the staff was attentive and helpful. It was about $30 a night and that is a lot in Laos but it was such a nice room and a great location - we thought it was worth it.

The room have been renovated. The one I was in had a bath tub and a separate shower with a rain nozzle. The room also has a balcony that overlooks a patch of grass and mango trees. Restful.

There is no swimming pool, but for Thai Baht 400 it is possible to use the pool at the Lao Plaza hotel around the corner.

The hotel is within walking distance of Nam Phu Fountain and the restaurants there. .

Staff are helpful

We stayed here just one night on out return from our adventures in Laos and found this hotel to be comfortable and handy. We were in one the the newer rooms. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. It is close to the stadium to go for a run in the morning and there are tennis courts nearby. Everyone was very nice, we would stay again.
