This hotel is the 5th floor in the old Soviet behemoth, Hotel Dostuk. It could not be any more different than the Soviet-style rooms in the old hotel. The location is a few blocks from the center of Bishkek, including many government buildings on Chui Prospekt.
The outside entrance is the same as that of Hotel Dostuk. That means you drive to the street, then get out and walk up several sets of outdoor steps, lugging your luggage with you. After you enter, you take the elevators to the fifth floor. Those with difficultly walking may miss concierge/luggage service, and a drive-up entrance. They will arrange for airport pick-up and drop-off.
Because it is only one floor of a building, you are not going to get the usual things you get in a hotel lobby. There is no grand entrance, downstairs lounge or bar, or fitness center. There is a small reception area in the middle of the floor where you check in, with space to sit and chat/have an espresso. Across from this space is a small computer/business room with three computers and a printer. The rest is your typical floor of a hotel---all rooms.
The staff are very kind and courteous, and speak English reasonably well (though are more comfortable using Russian or their native Kyrgyz). They efficiently take care of anything you need, including arranging taxi service, payment, etc.
The rooms are newly outfitted, clean, and well-laid out: They need to be, because they are on the smaller side. They have a medium-firm mattress with very soft, warm, down comforters and pillows. They decor is neutral and white with accents of red pillows.
There is a mini bar with some beer, water, juice, pop, and a few chocolate bars. There is also a kettle for boiling water with green and black teas, and instant coffee. There is a desk and chair for your computer and work materials, and my room had a balcony with a mountain view and tons of sunshine all day.
The bathrooms are also somewhat small, but again are brand new and well designed with shelving to make up for the lack of counter space. Two shower heads are available in the glass shower stall: One fixed with a very large diameter/spray, and another removable one.
The place is spotless and well put together. Other hotels I've stayed at in Bishkek, for example, have pretty fixtures and shower stalls that spray poorly or leak. None of these problems here.
There are, however, fewer amenities than in most places. There are no tissue boxes/tissues. They provide shampoo, soap, and toiletries including a razor and toothbrush (no conditioner). Only one large towel in a single. No room service, but there is a cart across from reception with some cocktails and mixers should you like a drink.
You can tell that this is a small place: They leave only one teabag in the room. Breakfast seats only about 12, with food carefully laid out (hard boiled eggs, bliny, bread, one type of cheese, one type of sausage, samsa, yogurt, one type of cereal, one jam, margarine, green and black teas and instant coffee). I wish they had fresh fruit, perhaps in season that will be the case.
The location is quite good, there is a grocery store across the street and all the bread and circuses you can want on Chui a few blocks away. Free wifi is included, as is breakfast, and prices are fantastically reasonable for what you are getting.
I would stay here again in a heartbeat. The positives by far outweigh the few negatives, and it is a convenient, well-priced, comfortable place to stay. They take Visa, which is not always the case in Kyrgyzstan. Yet another good thing about Club Hotel Dostuk! Location + service + quality rooms + free wifi + good price = great place to stay, again and again.
