“Great value hotel just away from the noise”

Good location as it is just off the main area but still close to the river and other attractions. We were in the annex on the 4th floor and had a great view of the temple and the monument from our balcony. The pool is mainly in the shade all day and is good to dip in after a day out but not really for sun bathing. Staff at the pool are very friendly and come around asking if you need a drink. The gardens and trees make the pool area feel like you are in a jungle clearing. Small citronella burners are place all around the pool at dusk and in the bar area which keeps the bugs away. The breakfast was not extensive but did have plenty of fruit and a small selection of Asian food. There was a chef making waffles and omelettes on request. The inclusion of some bug deterrent would be good as there were a number of flies around the fruit bar. The room we had was a bit unconventional as the bath room had no door or wall between the bedroom – just some bamboo poles and a half wall. The bath was very large with a good shower above. There was a hair dryer in the bathroom area and good towels. The toilet was separate. The 1st night the turn down service placed some fragrant flowers on the bed – a nice touch. A quality Sony flat screen TV with plenty of channels and HBO. Unfortunately the picture quality was poor and we were only there for 2 days so never had a chance to complain. Free Wi-Fi which seems to be ubiquitous in Cambodia was easy to set up and gave 2.3mb down and 0.83mb up.

Room Tip: Top floor of the annex for a good city view

“Good choice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012 via mobile

Rarely, the cheaper room was better. We spent almost a week and we were very comfortable. The breakfast is not great but the restaurant is good for lunch and dinner. The hotel has a really nice pool, so don't forget to take your swiming suit. The room is spacious and comfortable. The only small problem is that hot water takes for ever to come in the shower. Overall, it was a nice stay.

“Formule 1”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

You love racing cars? well bad luck as I am speaking of French : « Formule 1 » A hotel network found on most Paris and province suburbs’ of France.
Why such poor comment on such a historical place? Owned by a prominent member of Cambodia high court and managed by a French team. Well ... let’s start by the good –
- Fantastic central location near the independence monument that offers walking distance access to all the surrounding pubs, cafe and restaurants nearby.
- Quiet environment with plenty of trees and lovely birds that fly around.
- Charming good looking on the global set up designed as a promising boutique hotel.
- Welcoming staffs that cares without being invasive.
- Food is prepared professionally.
Up to now you will agree: This is a nice place!
- Then there is the Formule 1 ... (What a pity) look, set up of the room (Deluxe at 90+ Us$) that looks like such hotel chain: The cold looking room & its furniture brought me straight back to Paris suburbs’ next to the Roissy Airport by a gloomy day!
- And now the bad: Oh! Nice you think – In the centre of the whole decorum there is a large swimming pool... I waited for this after a long hot Cambodia country side trip that makes you hot & dusty – A swimming pool! You hurry up to get your swimming trunks (in the formule 1 room ...) and Hop! You jump in the ..... hargh!!! ... NO! ... A Chlorine bath!!! - Skin start to react, lips wonder what kind of medicine or poison is that ... and out you go to your formule 1 room to take a shower ...!
-Forgot: In the toilet there is no little side shower.. Strange (for the region) and my wife complained... again!
Conclusion: It is a nice place among the growing list of Boutique Hotels – The value for its price is Ok as it is very well situated but book well in advance in order to get the possibility to get a room in the ancient wood home of “Mr K.P.”

Room Tip: Book in advance for a historic room in the wood house Avoid the new aisle (unless you want to enjoy...

“Mixed Emotions”

On arrival check-in was efficient, the setting was brilliant and I had the fortune of being given teh room at the front of the Annex overlooking Wat Langka. My friends however managed to score the dark and noisy room on the ground floor near the staff walkway. Other firends were given a room without a bathroom door.
I stayed here for 2 days and although I tried to extend my stay the staff did not understand after several explanations (written and verbal) that I had "confirmed" my need to extend- and they gave the spare room away!!
Breakfast was okay and in general service was average (perhaps a little slow).
I agree with a previous review- the safety deposit boxes might hold a paperback but little else!
I would stay again however just because it was clean and the pool setting a delightful tropical hideout!

Room Tip: Ask for the front room in the annex- it overlooks the Wat and you can watch the monks commence their...

“Lovely , staff couldn't do enough !!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2012

This is a lovely "boutique" hotel fairly close to everything in Phnom Penn. It must have the smallest safety deposit box in the world though. Breakfast was good if a little strangely set out.but the restaurant is open and overlooks the pool (take your own teabags if you are a tea fan - it's never strong enough for me)
Pool is nicely designed and vey welcoming and although very few loungers it wasn't a real problem getting one. The staff are hardworking and friendly they couldn't do enough for us even the pool girls followed behind with mops when we got out of the pool. We had a couple of niggles , rooms 11,12 & 14 are located at the top of the main stairs from reception and the noise from people coming and going was a bit annoying , also very close to the main entrance and traffic noise and various cats wailing at night was a bit annoying. The room itself was minimalist and despie other reviews we had a "door" on the bathroom. Lack of storage ie: drawers. Tuktuk's at the main entrance will pounce when you go out but they are not pushy and when politely told no thanks they will leave you alone. They are cheap and know their way around so take advantage. This hotel is located a bit away from the main night life , if you find the main beach road just keep walking and the bars will appear , it's about a 15 - 20 minute walk but worth it. The hotel will organise trips and we went to the Genocide Museum (very sobering and worth a visit) and had a trip round the town with a lovely young driver who spoke reasonable English , the trip round town to the Golden Palace wil take 4 - 5 hours and he will take you wherever you wish to go. All in all a great location and fab staff - wold stay again if ever in Cambodia !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Avoid 11,12 & 14 ............... get one on the top floor at the back if possible
