“Ok but just ok!! Rooms are the best thing about it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

This hotel Is a little bit old and dated!! It's ok if you just want a big room with a bath shower etc for a night but it is way out from everything!! I was there backpacking and have stayed in some much worse places but had a better time!!....the service is none existent and if you want anything you have to go to reception desk!! No wifi as advertised either!! We were given a password when asked but no connection!?!?......the pool was a nice escape from the city below but fist impressions are not great!! As it looks scruffy and all of the parasols are ripped and won't work and the sunbeds are old and some broken!!.......breakfast!!! Well in a word DON'T!! it is horrible!! Everything is freezing and looks like it's been there weeks!!! Tastes vile too!!! Even the drinks are not nice!! Much better to go outside to eat!!!
I would look for somewhere near the riverfront to get a better deal and also save on tuk tuk journeys everywhere!! This was supposed to be a little slice of the high life whilst backpacking but to be honest there are miles better places we would rather have stayed!!!.....ok for price as no complains room wise but do not book for your whole stay!!!!

“Old fashioned, but a very good price”

Our first impression upon arriving at the Royal Palace Hotel was that it was nice, if a little old looking (the decor looks like it hasn't been changed since the 1960's). It is also a little out of the way from pretty much everything, though there is a nice big supermarket down the road with KFC.We were pleased to find that our room was HUGE and that the window and curtains blocked out almost all noise and light (very good for sleep ins!). The bathroom was nice and big, though we had issues with the shower with the water constantly running either very cold or very hot, even though the temperature wasn't changed. The water pressure was very good though.
The complimentary breakfast wasn't nice at all. Cold frankfurts, brown looking eggs, and cold Asian fare had us visiting only once during our 3 night stay. The bed was rock hard - like sleeping on a concrete slab, and the internet and TV were turned off every night around midnight, which made for a very boring night when we got back to our room after a big night out. The staff were somewhat annoying, always getting things wrong, then lying if they were caught out.
So, why did I give this place 4 stars? Because of the price. For around $30 for a massive room it really can't be beat.

Room Tip: Don't get your clothes cleaned at the hotel. They will charge you ridicuolous amounts for each i...

“Great Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 March 2011

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The room was huge, well furnished and spotlessly clean. As well as having a kettle etc in the room we also had a cafetiere! How cool is that! I love proper coffee too. How could they know that? :-) The staff are lovely, very cheery and helpful. The area of the hotel is a good bit away from the riverside but no problem getting a tuktuk as they are always parked outside the hotel and are very cheap. We liked the area though. Very interesting and in the heart of a market place, busy and bustling and always loads going on. Also, would be hard to beat I think, getting a hotel of this standard and price closer to the river. Breakfast was nice too, adequate. Having a pool was great too and it was kept very clean. Wifi only worked in our ensuite bathroom but we were on the 7th floor, still, it DID work and there are also the free computers on the ground floor to use, All in all a great hotel.

“Personal belongings stolen!!!”

My group members lost a wallet, 2 iPhones, 1PSP, 1iPod player + charger & some cash about $100USD. Passport was kept separately. Request the hotel reception staff on duty to write a report on the lost, but refused. Very disappointed with the service and behavior of the staff. Will not recommend anyone to this hotel, avoid if all possibility....
