“A hotel on the decline”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

Sadly this hotel has really aged in the nearly 2 years since my last stay. Or, more to the point, they have not done anything to maintain or upgrade the place. The hotel is now only for those looking to the lower end of the market – rooms are very grubby and well worn - I was surprised that there were even stains on the ceiling!
I paid their standard rate of $25 USD per night, which is not too bad. The free airport pickup was handy, and reasonable wifi and a decent free breakfast was included in the price. Sadly building developments in the area left my room with a view of an adjacent wall about a metre from the glass, so no view here. The noise was incredible, from passing traffic to a crying child in a neighbouring building to deep bass music from nearby clubs – sleeping was almost impossible!
Possibly the biggest problem with Flamingos is that there are some other, newer hotel that have opened nearby, in the same price bracket and offering a much nicer accommodation. Flamingos is very much on the decline, and is in dire need of renovations to be competitive with its new neighbours. Oh, and check your bill when you leave - they tried to add two sets of laundry to my bill, both dated 3 days before I even arrived. I'd like to think it was a genuine mistake, so just make sure you know what you are paying for.

Room Tip: I'd try to get as high as possible and towards the back of the hotel if you want any chance at g...

“Very good for the price and location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

The 2 most positive points at the Flamingos are 1st the people working there and 2nd the location. The employees, from the front desk to the bar going through the cleaning ladies, all people are so nice, friendly, smiling and helpful that I would go there only for them ! Great people !!! The location ... if you go there for a good night life (good bars and discotheques), the Flamingos definitively has a good spot. You can reach many good places in less than 5 minutes walking distance. If you want to go to the seaside, it will take you less than 10 minutes and 2$ by tuktuk. Just in front of the hotel, you also have a very nice spa where you can get good professional massages. Now, who says good night life also says some noise so if you have a room giving on the street, it can be a bit difficult to fall asleep ...
The rooms ... well, the rooms could be renewed. You can find better rooms for the same price but not with the same people, of course ! The price is still fair, the rooms are clean and they all have aircon, a TV and a safe and you also get a free pick up from the airport if you request it which is a very good service.

I like this place and will definitively return !

Room Tip: Ask for a room not giving on the street which can be noisy due to nightlife

Basic, worned rooms with poor value (standard room 25USD). Rooms at the back of the building are less noisy.

“Decent budget option”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 June 2011

Basic but good rooms, value for money I guess.
Location is between the river and central market, it's possible to walk to both.
Near some nightlife (Heart of darkness disco and some bars)
Free airport pickup is included, as well as a basic breakfast.
I would stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the streetside
