“OKrooms and staff but dreadful envirnoment”

I Had a Colleague book a night for a quick social visit to Phnom Penh. Id been here 6 years ago and wanted a cheap place for one night.
On arrival Í thought I'd made a big mistake 'the restaurant looked discussing, run down and I one of the most depressing looking eating places in the city. The entry to the rooms are up a narrow stairway tucked away round the corner with persistent tuk tuks, touts and guys offering sex and drugs to anyone who was walking in or out. Thats not unusual for Phnom Penh; but could be upsetting fro some tourists.

The room was actually OK, reasonably clean with a/c TV and basic shower room. For $8 I was happy with the room and the the reception girls were sweet with good English.

When we arrived PP,we were very shocked to hear about Capitol Guesthouse. We've been told by the tuk tuk drivers about this hotel that this hotel is very noisy, dirty & small.
But,once we reach Capitol Guesthouse,we're relieve, what the tuk tuk drivers told us is not true at all.
The room clean and spacious!
Cable TV,aircond, hot water and they provide tooth brush, soap & clean towel too.

Staff are friendly & helpful.

We also arrange our city tour and returm trip to airport with capitol tours-reasonable price!

P/s:I'm in love with Capitol ice coffee with milk & Heng fried rice(5pm-1am) at Orussey Market...yummy!

“not clean!”

we stayed there because we thought it'd be easy to get a bus. the room was dirty. first thing we saw was a cockroach (the corridors were filled with cockroaches). and the bed close to the light had lots of flying bugs and the long crawly types. in the end, we both squeezed into the twin bed for the night. won't ever stay there again. go across the road to dragon guesthouse. same price. same location. much cleaner and free wifi!

“Good, but not brilliant.”

Capitol guesthouse is quite a popular guesthouse mainly because its so cheap. The rooms are clean, but the whole place could probably do with a makeover. The good things were that they have organised tours to the points of interest and can organise travel on to Vietnam. The restaurant was fine and there's even an ATM. A big con was the number of tuk-tuk drivers outside hassling each other for your business which got quite annoying. Its a good place to stop for a 1 or 2 nights to see the sights and then move on to vietnam.

“Feels like home ;)”

I fall in love with this "old" guesthouse since the first time I got here. I shared a fan room with a fan, but lately I stay in an air con room with TV cable and hot water (that sometimes too hot and other time not hot at all) for $8. $10 for a twin bed room. I stay here regularly if I need a quick escape from my dorm somewhere in remote village outside PP.

It's located very close to Orussey Market and there is a bus station for Capitol Tours next to it. So you can imagine how noisy it is in the morning. I prefer the inside rooms (like room 207) with no window coz it gives less noises and you don't lose much since there is no nice view from the window.

The Capitol Tours next door provides various services, from bus services - locals, Vietnam and Bangkok; various tour options, visa extension (very handy), and money changer.

Next good thing: Capitol Restaurant. Might not be the best in town, but I'm in love with their Ice coffee with milk (2,000 Riel) and Vegetable Omelet (3,500 Riel). Their other food is actually very nice and cheap! Highly recommended. And for a food traveler like me, other reason to stay here is at night, the area around it turned to food heaven.

Well.. It is a nice place to stay for a long term traveler like me. The receptionist are very kind and helpful.

(-) notes:
Tuk2 driver can be very annoying, but they are better than the one in river side.
Too much noise.
