We started with a roam around the area looking for good value rooms - there were 3 of us and a 4th on the way - we settled here for a number of reasons - the 3 bed room was HUGE and white and clean with it's own balcony (3 single/double beds each wioth access either side, as well as lots fo space on the floor for bags and a fridge). For this reason we stayed and had a great time with the AC. Compared to all the hostels around it was the best room by far (Nice GH had a smaller but more colourfully decorated room).
As our 4th friend arrived we moved around the beds and still paid for the 3 bed place with 4 of us. When they both left the two remaining moved to a double room (with AC) which seemed much smaller (double bed with access from one side) to mainly just be missing the new paint job - infact it seemed pretty dreary and miserable!
Our advice (with much of Asia) is to ask to see a few rooms, if not a few places!
We followed the advice of many before and on the second try had ice coffee - which was nice but nothing special? Maybe a little more condensed milk than normal? Not worth going for that - certainly not worth going for the food or service, with wrong orders, then double orders, lies about having no chips (then the double ordered chicken and chips came?) we quickly found the service and quality and quantity of food to be low!
We enjoyed eating at Narim 2 GH around the corner (next block) which seemed much friendlier service and gorgeous pancakes (if you like them thin)
* I should add this is in May - very hot - hence we were going for AC. Otherwise bargain rooms starting at $2 can help the budget traveller (rather than $8-10 for a double!) Also 2 people can sleep in the same bed (if they know each other well!)
