“Terrible hotel with dunky room and bad reception service with horrible buffet breakfast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2011

I have stayed in not so good hotels before but never one that give you a room where there is a musky smell of dust and damp (you get this only when a place has been left alone for along time). It felt eerie too. The bed sheet was not clean, two tea bags without any coverings were provided. Overall the room was bad. Nothing beat the pathetic buffet breakfast supplied. The food including the bread and coffee tasted yucks. There seemed to be lack of food as if the were rationing the portion. The receptionist was so unfriendly and unhelpful. Probably the worst hotel I had ever stayed in. It was so different at the other hotel in Siam Reap where I paid a cheaper rate than this hotel. Friendly and smiling staff with very clean room and sumptuous breakfast there. The next time I go to Phnom Phen, I will stay in Queens Hotel just down the road. It is newer and cheaper and cleaner than Holiday Villa plus reception service is great there

“Bad choice for stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2011

The hotel was recommended by another for stay and hence we did not bother to look up the reviews online. As soon as we entered we were enveloped by the damp smell of a room kept closed for a long period of time. the room was OKAY. we were so awed by our hotel at Siam Reap, that the Holiday Villa hotel at Phnom Phen was such a let down. Typical of a hotel in the CBD, the hotel lacked class and cleanliness. the hotel staff were not really friendly either. The breakfast spread was poor. If i had a choice to stay at a hotel in phnom phen again, i would never choose Holiday Villa neither would I recommend anyone to stay there.

“The backpacker area is much nicer.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 August 2011

We stayed here for a few nights on the way to Siem Reap. Whilst the hotel itself is acceptable, we didn't feel particularly at home here. We went to the lobby to have a coffee and despite being a couple were 'welcomed' by two scantily clad ladies who worked in the bar area. whilst they didn't proposition us as such we were encouraged to sit in an area which we noticed could be curtained...a bit odd...and also considering Cambodia seemed to be a rather modest country their short skirts and low cut tops did raise a few suspicions...very odd.

The area itself is not particularly friendly either and the walk to various tourist sites is not pleasant and you are hassled constantly right from leaving the hotel. On the way back from Siem Reap we stayed in the backpacker district and felt much safer. The accommodation was no worse either.

Nice enough rooms, Nasty Food, Very Odd Atmosphere.
