“Decent business stay in Dhaka”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 January 2012

people found this review helpful

I stayed here for a week in August 2011 on a business trip. It was my first and only trip to Dhaka so I have no hotel frame of reference, but it was a decent experience.

Pros: friendly front desk staff, attractive lobby, tennis court, pool, several dining options, respectable Internet speeds with good Wi-Fi coverage

Cons: The shower was just awful, with a narrow tub to stand in and a shower curtain that was constantly touching my skin due to proximity. The room also had a certain dampness or humidity to it at all times.

“The Old Sheraton”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 January 2012

Ruposhi Bangla is the Old Sheraton under local management after expiry of management contract with Sheraton. It may be under the Intercontinental banner soon.
The rooms seem to be better the higher you go in terms of floors. The fittings etc seem to be older in the lower rooms as was the TV. I was on the 10th floor which had newer fittings and TV but changed to the 5th floor since the 10th floor room was a no smoking room. The AC does not seem to have individual controls.
All visitors to Bangladesh should make allowance for traffic jams. The ride from the Airport to the Hotel took over two hours which should be a 40 min trip under normal circumstances.
A shopping Mall "Basundhara" is located about 15/20 mins from the hotel but it is like navigating an obstacle course if you decide to walk. Do not entertain the beggar children that pester you, otherwise you will be mobbed.

Room Tip: Make sure to ask for a smoking room if you are a smoker during check in since this information is no...

“Ultimate Carelessness!!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

The only thing good about this hotel is its LOCATION.... other than that i would say nothing is worthy in this hotel.

Their service is extremely bad. They do not have a 24/7 housekeeping. The room service is extremely slow. Bed sheets and towels stinks. Do not have a proper world class toiletries.

Their buffet breakfast was OK.

I have stayed in this hotel earlier too while it was Sheraton. But I was very very disappointing to see the hotel in this state.

I stayed 1 day in this hotel. Excellent housekeeping and facility. Rooms are very clean and but smaller in size. The Bathroom is also small. This hotel is Located in main city. Value for money. This hotel is far from the airport and there is some traffic jam at this area. Local shopping centre is very nearby to this hotel. All Cricket team payers are using for their stay at this hotel.

“One of the best hotels in Dhaka”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011
3

A very good hotel, on a level that matches international five-star hotels, though with certain inadequacies specially in the outside decor and the feel.

The hotel is one of the centres of international conferences and meets in Dhaka, so expect an eternal buzzing crowd in the lobby, The staff is quite helpful and the hotel does have some very good and convinient facilities available. On the lobby level, you have a sort of convinience store where you can buy recharge for prepaid mobile phone connections.

In the annex building, immediately behind the hotel there are three money exchange bureaux which offer some of the most competitive conversion rates in the city, I have personally compared it with those at the airport and at other larger hotels. Where the hotels offered 73 takas for a US dollar and the airport exchange bureaux offered 79 takas, the bureaux at the Ruposhi Bangla offered 81 takas. The difference is minor but if you have large amounts to be converted, then it could be quite a gain.

The hotel is a bit worn and has an oldish 70s feeling about it, from the interior as well as from outside but the rooms are quite large and spacious and are impeccable in their decor.

Location is good, right in the centre of the city, with Dhaka's horrendous, stationary traffic, this is the best choice.
