“La Cucaracha”

I checked into this hotel on the 29th of Jan 2012 and checked out on the 31st.
My girlfriend and I wanted to have a pool and the rate of $50 USD per night seemed reasonable since it sells itself as a 4 star hotel.

I dont know who is responsible for the rating, however, this hotel is probably a 2.5 to 3 star max. and this was in the newer part of the hotel.

Beds were hard and pillows lumpy and the included breakfast was lacklustre. internet was down the first day and sketchy at best on the second.

I wouldn't expect to see roaches at a 4 star, but my girlfriend closed the bathroom door and a giant one was staring right at her... I also found baby roaches in the room near the telephone.

All of this on top of rude reception when we checked in. Their internet was down and didnt have our booking which we booked through agoda.com. I provided them with the booking number and they said that if they didnt have internet by tomorrow, i would have to pay them direct.... um no! i had prepaid online... I said let me get this straight... you dont have internet and its my fault...

Anyway we were happy to leave! If this hotel could learn a little customer service, they may fair a lot better.

Whomever awards hotels their star rating should look into this!

Room Tip: the deluxe rooms are in the newer wing of the hotel...

“lovely hotel”

Excellent hotel. we were in the main hotel and on the 3rd floor. our room was in the new part of the hotel and has only just been done up. the rooms still smelt new and you could smell the wood. we had a balcony which overlooked the main road. the only problem with the room was the door onto the balcony was not secure and it meant we had to keep a chair in front of the door to stop our 2 year old son going out there on his own. the balcony was very small and the air conditioning unit just begged to be climbed on.
the pool has not changed in years and is very deep but there is a shallow childrens pool.
close to everything.
traffic noise keeps going all night as do the beeping horns so you may be better asking for a room at the back of the hotel for a quieter night sleep

“Nice and clean hotel”

Nice and clean hotel. We stayed in the B block, the cheaper part for us backpackers. Clean and average rooms. The hotel has two swimming pools and two tennis courts, but be sure you're told the whole price beforehand. Good breakfast. Wifi at reception, free wifi from the hotel next door in the rooms :) if you're looking for something cheaper and more basic there are other backpacker hotels with dorms in the city.

“Nice and close to the beach, decent hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 December 2010

I stayed here as part of a Gap tour in December 2010. The rooms were decent, nice beds with clean sheets. The bathroom had one of those 'Asian' style showers where the entire bathroom is the shower and there is no shower curtain or divider, so you might get the toilet seat and paper wet if you're not careful. On the plus side, the water was very hot - so no problems with the shower not being warm enough.

The hotel had two pools, one very large pool which was fairly deep, and one smaller pool which was about waist deep the whole way. It was very nice to swim in, and you could also borrow these large inflatable donuts to just sit in and float around lazily in. The sides of the pool were lined with wooden banana lounges - you could also get the sponge mattress lining from inside the pool shed too. You could get towels as well, if you asked reception or the pool guy.

The breakfast at this hotel was superb - you could order as much as you wanted from a menu, which included Asian breakfast dishes such as pho (rice noodle soup with beef or chicken) and rice porridge, as well as Western breakfast such as a baguette, with cold meats, bacon, fried eggs, spreads, etc. On top of that, there was a table set up with platters of several different kinds of fruit, as well as jugs of fresh fruit juice (lemon, orange, pineapple), and coffee/tea.

Unfortunately, there was a very large amount of noise due to construction of a very tall, new building.

“Okay for budget travellers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2010

Stayed here for a conference.

The restaurant is jam packed during breakfast. Though adequate selection, it does not vary.

Room service is okay and prompt, due i had problems with ordering, probably because the transaction is in English. Not much problem on English in the reception area.

Internet connection is quiet slow.

It is near the beach and is walking distance to some good restaurants and small shops.

A good hotel for budget travellers.
