“spic and span and comfortable”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 April 2010

Our room in the Duy Tan Hotel was very comfortable and spacious. The bed and pillows were comfy and there was a balcony ( which is nice when there is a smoker present). The place was sparkling clean and the staff were helpful. We only spent 2 nights here but ther were no complaints from us. This hotel has an air of times past - the corridors were wide with sparkling clean tiles, the staircase was big and airy and the lobby spacious and filled with the favoured dark timbered, uncomfortable lounge chairs.

“Good Hotel with Central Location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 February 2009

This hotel is right in the centre of Hue. A short walk to the Perfume River, shops, bars, restaurants, etc. The hotel is divided into two separate buildings with the newer (and nicer) building on the right. We did not go into the older building however we were told repeatedly the rooms in the newer building were much nicer. Our room was fantastic- very large, 12 ft ceilings and a balcony overlooking Hue. It was very clean, spacious and quiet. The breakfast buffet was incredible. The largest selection of food that we saw with any hotel in Vietnam. You must try the Pho they serve with breakfast. I am still craving it. Internet access is available in the lobby right by the front desk which is a little inconvenient with everyone able to see what you are doing but that is a very small complaint.

“OK commo accom.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2008

Owned and run by the government apparently so a chance to see Communism at work. It's OK if a little bland. The staff were a bit like you may expect to find in a government office anywhere on earth.

The room was huge and clean and had the biggest bed I've ever seen outside of Las Vegas. It had a small balcony.

The place is sort of in two parts with two different entrances so you may want to be clear on which you're going to for the sake of your taxi driver. The hotel seems to specialize in bus groups and weddings but this caused us no problems other than that breakfast ends at 8.30am (the buses get away early) and what was left after the bus crowd had been through was a bit ordinary. The wedding receptions were beaut to look at.

We were there on New Year's Eve and a chap in uniform strongly urged us to join in the free party in the function room. He was actually quite insistent. It seemed like a good thing to do but by the time we went down at about 9.30 it was all over and everyone had gone home.

The restaurant directly across from the front gate was excellent and the chap there can organize anything from motorbike hire to guided tours. He turned out to be a pretty good guide.

“Clean and nice, but impersonal”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2007

This hotel, while it had clean and nicely outfitted rooms, was clearly on the Asian tour bus circuit, and was rather impersonal after staying in smaller mid-range hotels. Their breakfast buffet was pretty good, with a decent selection of fresh fruit, but good luck getting a table during peak times. The tour company they recommended us to for a DMZ tour sold us a decent tour for $12 - I'd rather have paid a bit more for a better breakfast (it was included, but not so great - for our lunch on the return, which was at the same place but not included, we walked across the street and had lunch in a local place) and a cleaner bus (the a/c worked, but the seats were, um, well-aged). After two nights at this hotel, we moved to the Orchid - not because it was bad, but because the Orchid is so much better.

  • Liked — Clean, almost luxurious rooms, good location
  • Disliked — Impersonal service, less-than-ideal tour recommendation
