Well, my family had stayed at Thanh Noi 3 times, about 3 wks each time when we were in Vietnam. Here is my honest review.
We love the pool, love the quite atmosphere, the walk to the citadel and the breakfast buffet. But most of all what brought us back is the staffs at the restaurant. They are super nice and friendly. They are shy and in some way worried too much about their English to make a conversation. I spoke Vietnamese and I found these people at the restaurant are one of the sweetest, nicest people I ever met. My husband (who is American and do not speak Vietnamese) felt the same way even though he did not understand much. They cook us food on request. And the food at the buffet is actually delicious and healthy.
This is a great place for family with young children, we have 3. The kids can run around in the garden and the pool and I feel safe letting them do that. Trust me, staying in a quite area and quite street in Vietnam is really important if you have small children. The pool is super clean and next to the hotel coffee shop. We always got some smoothies and ice cream when we are at the pool. :) The walk to the citadel is quite nice. Short and beautiful.
Ok, the rest of the hotel. The room compared to other hotels - they could use some updating. They are old and some can be more like a motel than hotel. The housekeeping staffs are super nice and really helpful. Just ask if you need some thing.
I think as long you know what you are looking for, you wont be disappointed. If you are looking for a castle or a 5 star resorts, this is NOT it. If you are looking for a nice friendly place to sleep at night while discovering Hue and its people, this is it. The hotel has a lot to offer as a guesthouse. And honestly, I think this is one of the best location in Hue.
We are coming back to Thanh Noi in April, will update if anything had changed!
