“Bad Value”

We are residents in Vietnam and are quite used to any standards of accomodation. The Star Hotel, we found, was the the unfairest deal regarding price compared to delivery we ever had. It's not even worthwhile to discuss the below-average breakfast, the overstaffing with more people playing with cell phones than actually caring about guests, nor would we discuss the dismal suite we were given having the size and appointment of any deluxe room in any lower standard hotel. For this we paid 90USD. In the same area are beautiful hotels for half the price such as the Spring Hotel, Medal Hotel, Bong Sen Hotel etc. The Star Hotel should be given a miss.

i stayed here twice within a few days, i found it to be in a great location, not too far away from everything, but far enough to get away from most of the noise.

the rooms where beautifully decorated, the foyer was stunning, breakfast wa ..ok ...staff...well mainly very broken english was spoken, the doormen where exceptional.

i stayed on the 10th floor both times, we had great views...but when they have a power outage for hours at a time.....those stairs can be deadly !

all in all i would stay there again, a very nice hotel!

  • Liked — the location and cleanliness
  • Disliked — the power outages.....language barrier ( at times ) breakfast not that great!

“Comfortable, but noisy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 April 2007

This hotel is well located in District 1, just near the new Park Hyatt, Caravelle and Sheraton Hotels. The whole hotel is tiled, so the noise in the hallways just echoes into your room. Unfortunately when we stayed there was also building works next to the hotel, so there was drilling and banging from 8am onwards. Satellite TV stations were not tuned in and it took a couple of days to get it fixed. Great airconditioning, great shower, and breakfast was OK. Front of house staff were not always helpful.

“Nice and Clean”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 January 2007

This was a very clean hotel with new fittings and a comfortable bed. We stayed in the superior room for $55 US which was spick and span. It was near the back of the hotel on the 7th floor with a great view out of the one small window. Unfortunately we couldn't see it from the bed, which made the room seem a bit closed in. Breakfast was buffet style and there was free internet although it was really slow.

It is very close to the Le Thanh Ton for Japanese food ( We had the BEST bowl of Ramen noodles ever for 30000 VND at a small Ramen shop called Mi Nhat so 1 Noodles Japan Number 1on Thai Van Lung which is just behind Thi Sach) and Hai Ba Trung and all the expensive shops of the Dong Khoi area. Incidentally, it is also on the same street as Apocalpyse Now. This place looked tragic from the outside but we went in anyway. I ordered two cans of 333 which cost 50000 VND each! Honest night club prices. We drank our beers and left shortly afterwards.

If you want to stay away from all the Western Toursits and the constant badgering of the street hawkers in Pham Ngo Lao, then this is a possibilty, although it is perhaps a bit overpriced (like just about everything else in Saigon).
