“Good service but has insects”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 February 2012

This Hotel is more like a 2-3 star condo. The service was great and the rooms were good, but i had bites all over my body after the first night. We requested to switch rooms, but I continued to get bites. I'm not sure where it came from. I'm sure it was also on the beds, but I didn't see them physically. it is also too far to walk to down town.

“Lovely!”

Our family arrived in Vietnam late at night and the hotel transport that we had arranged was right there to meet us. Accompanied with the friendly staff, upon our arrival, much to our surprise, we were greeted with Christmas beautiful decorations! Check in, as well as check out was a breeze. Our family of four (including two teenage daughters) absolutely loved the Somerset, the spaciousness, kitchen and laundry facilities, gym/workout room and the pool. My younger daughter is a competitive swimmer and we were especially thrilled with the 25m pool! The apartment was comfortable, clean and had everything we needed. The hotel is within walking distance of the District 1 city center/market area or a short taxi ride if you'd rather. We also used the travel desk for the ChuChi Tunnels and we were extremely happy with the service and our guide was excellent. The breakfast buffet/service could be improved a bit, however, the food we had was good. I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends. Thank you Somerset!

“Great Retreat from the Bustle of HCMC”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Our family (we have three teenagers) loved this hotel so much that we started our trip to Vietnam there and then went back for our last 2 days of our holiday!!
It has a great big clean pool, nice breakfast, huge apartment (our girls had a double and an extra single bed in the second bedroom) with a laundry and 3 toilets!, on site shop, very helpful reception (they have a list of recommended restaurants that was very helpful and they'll book them for you).
Local Tips - Walk to the zoo next door for some quiet time in HCMC and to the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for some great cold drinks! - you are not right in town but can still walk to town in about 20 minutes (if you are game to cross the roads) or take a taxi for a couple of bucks.
Definitely visit the Reunification Palace and then the War Museum.
Trips - we really enjoyed our day trip to the Mekong and a day trip to Cu Chi Tunnels (try to check out the old video shown there about the war).

“Who needs ritzy overpriced hotels when you can stay here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2012

This was perfect for our small family with huge well appointed rooms and an equally large pool. It is the perfect refuge from HCM's busy and hot streets and still a short taxi ride from key attractions. Bonus is having the intriguing Saigon Zoo and Botanic Gardens just a block away which makes for a pleasant hour or two under a beautiful green canopy. The poolside bar and restaurant was also great value and quality food to boot. Helpful staff too so a great package all up. Would highly recommend to all families.

“Enough room to swing a family of cats!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

WOW! This was a huge surprise. The location of the Somerset is a little out of the city centre but step outside of the hotel reception area and a cab is there within seconds. The cost of a cab into the pulse of the city sets you back around $5 AUD equivalent. I consequently spent over 10 days in Vietnam and tried many 'pho' but the Somerset served up the most memorable of them all - exquisite! All good things here only got better when we steppe into our two bedroom apartment. Astounding size and incredibly comfortable ... all the creature comforts of home - boasting a huge laundry, two bathrooms and toilets and air con in every room ... two air con units in fact in the main living room. The storage space was incredible and yes ... FREE WIFI in the apartment!!! I cannot fault this place and for a family it is ideal. The tennis courts, playground and the huge swimming pool add that extra wow factor to an already wonderful experience. I would recommend the Somerset to any traveller wanting to feel like they've walked into a 'home away from home'.

Room Tip: Choose a room that doesn't face the main room. We stayed in one of these on the 6th floor and it...
