“Cheap and easy!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

I stayed at the saigon star hotel along with other volunteers at a charity we were working with, purely for convenience! The room was fine, nothing special, but at the least it was clean. Fruit was provided every day, which we were grateful for. One thing though- the stairs were terrible. You didn't get much of a choice as the elevator was very slow, but climbing up the stairs makes you grateful for the bed you get (ohh....coincidence there? perhaps sneaky tactics) but overall the stay was absolutely fine and you get what you pay for.

“This hotel is just good enough for budget travellers”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 September 2011

We found this hotel be of a good standard for the price I paid. I found it to be clean, tidy and close to all facilities. Great location across from the park. We can take stroll of about 15mins to get to BenThanh Market and anther additional 10 mins to town The staff were exceptionally friendly very nice people who tried help when asked, but the main english they spoke was sing language. We did not meet any staff that could speak fluent english. The hotel do try provide a buffet with omelette station, fruits, hot dishes, cereals ect. Other plus points were the nice view from the rooftop bat for a sundowner. An oke hotel but it's unlikely I would stay there again.

1 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 June 2011

My family consists of 5 people who are gonna stay 4 nights as I had booked on online.. We came there 11h30 to check in and enjoy there with all of what we expected from previous booking...We had the trouble when We checked in 3 hours ago....We said that everything had been the room badly, service not good, manager said out loudly so that we couldn't be asleep even though we had just arrived a few hours before....We could not stay more 3 nights left ,so we decided to the other hotel. The breakfsat was so dirty, not clear, and the stafff said rudly and loundly....please never come and stay in this saigon star

Room Tip: Never tip because the service was too poor.

“3 star rating, may be a bit too generous?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 October 2008

No place for the aged, they would never get up the stairs from the street. Arrived there in the evening. I think it is in the brothel district by the girls I saw. Rooms clean, had a window with a view. Staff pleasant enough. But for the price I would expect tea/coffee in the rooms and a bottle of water per person, not 500ml for two. No internet. Would not consider using it again and would not recommend.

  • Liked — bed was okay
  • Disliked — no tea coffee water or internet and price

“Value for money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 March 2008

The Saigon star is worn and very outdated, but is in a good location, opposite Cutlure Park, and clean. I had to look twice at the pictures from reviews written in 2005. The Staff are very friendly and happy to help.

Good in-hotel prices for massage, mini bar and roof top restaurant. The Karaoke bar is on the the 1st floor, but did not effect us, on the 5th floor. Nor did the street noise. The breakfast had plenty to choose from, but the table cloths need replacing (or cleaning?) .

The service and food on the roof top restaurant are great, but you don't actually have a view of the park or street, unless you stand up and look over the railing.

Crossing the road directly outside the hotel can be an adventure, as is anywhere in Saigon. For a better chance, turn left as you exit the hotel and walk up to the lights. 90% of the traffice will obey the red light, just remember to check traffic coming from other directions. The hotel exchanges currency, but on a few ocassions ran out and we walked 2 doors up to the Chancery Hotel, to do so.

Other comments - Blunt razor blades (as we found everywhere in Vietnam hotels). Bathroom exhaust fan cover fell out, but was fixed swiftly.
