This hotel is located well for sightseeing and shopping within easy reach of Ben Thang Market. The vibrant "Backpaker Streets" are just around the corner (literally!) with lots of pubs, restaurants and night life. We arrived early on the night train and was unfortunately forced to pay a whole days rate for the five hours we would spend extra in the room until check-in. Other hotels always accommodated us free of charge. The doorman tends to negotiate taxi prices without your consent so it is better to hail a taxi a little further down the street from the hotel. Rooms facing the park can be noisy at night, especially when the mass aerobics are on! Rooms are slightly on the small side especially the bathrooms. Limited western options with breakfast.

Respreshingly modern hotel right in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City. We had a very large 2 room suite which was very light and clean. Beds were comfortable. Furnishings were very modern and well decorated. Breakfast was plentiful and offered a lot options. Situated across from the park and a block to the markets. A lot of eating places nearby. Amazing value for the price.

We stayed here just four nights at the beginning of a tour and it was a good start. Our room faced in the inside so was very quiet, but you really didn't know what the weather was like until you heard the rain on the roof. There was a good selection for breakfast but when items ran out they were not replenished. The items that were supposed to be hot were nearly always cold once the burners had gone out. The staff were very helpful and always made sure you were able to cross the road.

Tea and coffee items and a safe were also included in the rooms.

The Vien Dong is a larger hotel and definitely not boutique (100 rooms) which seems to make it a bit less friendly and impersonal. When I arrived, the porter who helped bring my bags to my room would not leave without a tip and refused to answer any question about tours/travel agencies.
The breakfast buffet offers quite a selection, but some odd things like "Canned Fish" and rabbit stew with carrots one day. Not typical western stuff which is fine... but strange choices.
The location is fabulous, and I had a street-facing room and didn't find the noise bothered me. There are also rooms that face into the middle of the hotel for those who don't want the 'buzz' of the city. The rooms are all well-equipped, clean and spacious.
