“Best location for shoppers”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 June 2007

This hotel is perfectly placed for anyone who needs somewhere central yet reasonably priced. Of course one would not expect all the trimmings but then we were not paying USD 150 upwards per night. Located right on Dong Khoi, we had easy access to a supermarket next door, all the boutiques, tailors and shops within a stone's throw from us. A simple breakfast is included which enough to get you going for the day.

“Great Position”

The Asian is a small but well run hotel . The younger staff were so helpful in giving a map and explaining how and were to go and get the bargins and the markets to see. The older staff seemed more accommodating to the tour groups. Its easy walking to the main square which everything seems to run off and just going there and watching the traffic is an adventure. Our room was clean and the beds comfy but no tea and coffee facilities in rooms which is a bit behind the times, and going down to the lobby dining area everytime for a cuppa was a pain and then having to pay was a bit hard. Realy happy we made sure there was a lift in the hotel before booking. We were glad of foregoing a view and booking a back room as the traffic noise is really bad day and night but we slept sound unlike a couple in a front room. Not a real flash hotel but clean and handy to everything would stay again.

“DO NOT STAY HERE”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 January 2007

This hotel is pathetic. We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights, and it was the worst 4 nights of out entire trip! Although this hotel has a wonderful location in the city center, it is not a good hotel if you want quality and value for your money. This hotel was dirty, had very rude and unfriendly staff, horrible breakfasts, and very small, old rooms without a security box. For the price, this place was the worst! I would have happily paid $10 for this hotel, but NO MORE.

Just to give you a better idea of the breakfast... imagine 2 pieces of stale french bread with a small slab of butter and jam, with runny runny eggs. It was terrilbe, and juice was an extra $2!

To explain the uncleanliness, well... it would take all day... but for example, they do not clean the bathroom floors or vacuum the rooms. We had sticky stuff all over our bathroom floor, along with sewer smells. And the hotel lobby is just as bad. We found puke in the lobby and the lobby bathroom..... The staff knew about it, but took no action to clean it up.

I would never ever recommend this hotel unless it was $10 or less.

“Not bad at all.”

Their rooms are large but quite old. The rooms are relatively clean. Our room had a small deck and we got a view of the opera house.

The manager was great with helping us arrange our transportation (he also helped us out via email when we had to place a lost camera claim with our travel insurance company). He was also the one to help us book our room through email about a month ahead.

Location is quite good as you are within walking distance of everything, including Ben Thanh market.

Great pho breakfast.

Try to get a room in the back of the hotel to avoid the incessant loud noise of Saigon streets. The location and price certainly outweighs the lack of "nice touches" for us. We went in winter (Jan 2006) during high season and paid ~US$60.night.

“Plain rooms, unbeatable location and value”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2006

The location and price of the Asian Hotel are fantastic. The hotel is located on Dong Khoi, Saigon's central artery, within easy walking distance of all downtown attractions (once you get the hang of crossing the street in Saigon's crazy traffic :). The price we paid was very cheap by western standards--three rooms to accommodate the whole family cost less than a single room would at many three-star western hotels.

The rooms were plain--but hey, what do you expect for the price? They were clean, included all the expected amenities and even some unexpected ones (decent beds, cable TV, even free combs in the bathroom), and a good breakfast at the lobby restaurant to start the day was included in the price. The desk staff was also nice.

I would definitely stay here again if I were to return to Saigon. It's great value for money and the location is, again, unbeatable.

Tip: If you can, ask for one of the renovated rooms, as they're somewhat nicer than the older ones.
