“Nice hotel”

Sofitel Saigon generally met our expectations of a five star hotel. The room was comfortable and the house keeping staff were responsive. Breakfast was great. Somehow, we did not feel the warmth and friendly service expected from the hotel staff (except for the Cafe staff). The other thing which may be an issue for the non business customer is the location as the hotel is a good 15-20 mins walk to the city centre. The surrounding area has nothing much to offer and gets pretty quiet/lonely after dark with the exception of the hundreds (if not thousands) of motor bikes criss on the roads. You need to be extra vigilant when crossing roads as traffic can come from both directions simultaneously. If you don't mind walking (which we enjoyed), the location is a non-issue. The hotel also offers a complimentary one way shuttle service to the Saigon Tax Center and Ben Thanh market. Great hotel to stay if you do not have high expectations.

“Service was horrible”

The rooms are okay but the hotel needs to provide better training for it's Front Desk staff. I just checked out from the hotel today. The lady "Huong" who served me was outright rude. She mentioned that Sofitel is a 5 star hotel ... but if she continues to perform this way, she will definitely drag the reputation of the hotel to the gutters.

“My stay in January 2012 at Sofitel Saigon Plaza - a nice French inspired hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

Sofitel has what you need, if you want to relax in Ho Chi Minh City. Beside you are quite close to everything. The rooms are very comfortable in all aspects. Two restaurants where you can start the day with all choice of food and sparkling wine and end your day with a nice sea food buffet or a la carte. The one restaurant offers 24 hours service. The pool is placed a top level with a nice view over the city, if you want to be tanned or just need to relax perhaps with a drink or a little food. I had a 90 min. treatment in their welness/spa, what can be recommended. My 3 days stay was very possitive, and if I come back to HCMC, I would stay at Sofitel again.

“So So Sofitel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

While the rooms are good sized & the rooftop pool is very nice, the hotel has some major problems. The bathroom was shabby (damaged enamel in the tub & mold around the bath tub), as was the wall around the pool, which needed re-painting. The service in the Cafe at breakfast was slow and disorganized. A server came to our table as soon as we sat down & got our order for one coffee and one tea. The coffee was delivered, but no sign of the tea. Some time afterward, I saw a server (not the one who had taken our order) wandering around with a teapot, trying to find the tea drinker. Our server also asked if we wanted orange juice. DH did, but I later discovered there were 3 other juices available on the buffet table, which I preferred. Breakfast was the busiest meal, from what we observed. The service at dinner was better, perhaps because there were fewer people.
