Good location beside the Ben Than Market. Try eating at one of the eating places at the market.
Wake up early and watch the locals doing their morning Tai Chi in the square below.
Took a trip to the Meking Delta which is well worth doing. On the drop back to the hotel, we were the first to be dropped, everyone was so impressed with our location they all got off at our hotel!

We've been in Saigon for just over a week now, first room we booked was a standard and was a bit dark and pokey but the bathroom was fine and the room was clean and fresh. We moved into a much roomier junior suite on the 5th floor B block (at the back of the hotel) on day 5 and it overlooks the busy street and the wonderfully vibrant marketplace. The street sounds don't bother us as it's all part of the rich culture here (mopeds, horns, cockerills). The hotel is in a great part of District 1 and most sites are within walking distance. Our suite is bright and airy and we continue to receive great service from everyone here. We'll be heading up the coast by train for 12 nights here and there, returning to Saigon and this little gem of a hotel. The breakfasts are definitely worth getting up for - it's a decent hot and cold buffet style with traditional Vietnamese food and a selection of western fodder. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities (no milk however). Bottled water is left in every bathroom as it's not avisable to drink/swallow tap water. Free internet access in every room.

We stayed 2 nights at Tan Hai Long Hotel and Spa after one night at the Empress. (We booked the Empress at home in Australia so we had somewhere to stay the first night, but just before we arrived, we found this hotel right near Ben Than so we booked to stay here the remainder of our trip).

It is so close to Ben Than market and we got it for about $35 AUD a night on sale. Small room but all the comforts of home. Service was a little slow and they needed reminding for requests such as pillows, our laundry and meals ordered but in terms of location, rooms and price it served our needs.

There's a busy road right out front that is a challenge to cross (but aren't they all in Ho Chi Minh?!) but once you cross there's a lovely park to enjoy. Ben Than is a block to the left of the hotel as you step out and onto the sidewalk.

Would recommend to others.

My mom and I stayed at Tan Hai Long for about a week in January. The hotel is located right at Ben Thanh, which is really a great location as you are right in the middle of both the backpackers district and the nicer hotels.

We asked for a room in the B wing (further back) and while we could still hear some noise (which is pretty much a given in HCMC) it was great. The hotel was lovely.

We had breakfast each morning (located in the lobby) There was a great mix of both Asian and Western food as well as an omelet station and we never had trouble finding a table.

The only “weird” thing was the shower/tub wasn’t really connected to the wall, but we didn’t seem to have any water pouring out or anything. The water temperature fluctuated a bit as well, but nothing problematic.

Our flight getting into HCMC was delayed and the hotel didn’t charge us for that night or the car ride. From the airport to the hotel was around 140,000vnd one way and takes about 25 minutes. All in all we had a great stay!
