“The stairs, the stairs....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 November 2011

We were in and out of the Queen over a couple of weeks, staying 7 nights in total. Staff were great, hard-working, conscientious and could not be more helpful. The fabric of the hotel doesn't quite come up to their performance however. The lift never worked and the stairs are evilly steep, and the hot water came and went at whim. Nice rooms at the back, very quiet and an excellent location overall.

Room Tip: Go for rooms at the back - Hang Bac is a very busy street 24 hours a day.

“Website and LP give wrong information”

While the website seems to to offer charming rooms from $65, Lonely Planet comes up with the same information - we went to Queen Hotel and noticed that the beautiful picutres of dark planked lofty rooms were promotional pictures for their Halong Bay tours. Our room was a very affordable $12 for a double twin. Room was tiny though and had no windows.
On checkout the taxi that was ordered to take us to the airport did not arrive.

“A great little hotel right in the heart of hectic Hanoi”

Spent four nights here and had a great time. Upon arriving at the hotel you're greeted by friendly staff while you walk a small bridge over a beautiful fish pond. It's an oasis of calm and a welcome respite from the busy streets outside. We were upgraded to the VIP rooms at the back of the hotel which had free internet and ridiculously cheap mini-bars... awesome! It's just a couple of blocks from the Hoan Kiem lake, and, once you get used to crossing the street, a short walk from loads of great restaurants.

“Weird but wonderful”

This hotel has lots of character unlike new hotels in Vietnam. Its narrow and deep and quite dark inside but the rooms are large and fairly comfortable. Views from the rear rooms are just to the rears of other buildings whilst from the front are of the front of other buildings and the street. Its a city! We stayed for 8 nights in all, with nights away from Hanoi on the 5th and 6th floors and can't say that the noise at the front disturbed us at all. Think that the general street noise doesn't really travel that high. We were upgraded to an Executive room for a couple of nights which was very nice. Free access to the internet (in the executive rooms and in the dining room) was very useful.
Didn't realise for the first day or so that the motorcycles in the hallways were vintage - just thought that they were off the street. The continental type breakfast was pretty basic but sufficient.
The staff however are absolutely first class and could not do enough for their guests. They sorted out a mistake made by our agent for us really well and made sure that we enjoyed our visit.
