“Best nights sleep in 3 weeks touring Cambodia & Vietnam”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 March 2009

I am very surprised about the earlier reviews.

The staff were very very friendly. We (2 pax) arrived at 7 am., normally too early to book into a room. Were offered a free breakfast and then shown a twin room costing only USD 15.
The room was on the 5th floor, yes, there is no elevator but the room was very spacious with a/c., refrigerator, TV, DVD player, 2 arm chairs, a desk and chair, free Wi-Fi in the room, hair dryer, toothbrushes, shampoo and bathtub. The bed linen was spotless and warm, although the room was a little dark there was a window which overlooked the rooftops of the old city.
It was cold at night and the staff brought us an electric fire to heat the room. We heard no noise and had the best 2 nights sleep of our 3 week trip.
The hotel offered free tea, juice and coffee along with fruit 24/7 and the breakfast was a choice of 2 western style or 2 Vietnamese style meals.
The first day we tried the Vietnamese beef noodle soup, it was very tasty and was very filling. The second and third morning we had the western eggs and bacon with the largest baguettes I have ever seen, fresh from the oven.
We also booked a city tour at the reception, the price was the same as most travel agencies. We decided on the one with water-puppet show. In their prospect it stated "a better lunch". The lunch was good but was the same as other peoples. When we returned to the hotel we were asked about the trip. mentioning the meal, the receptionist, apologised and with a smile deducted USD2 per person from the bill.
On the whole, Vietnamese people do not smile as much as Cambodians or Thai people.
Here however we were greeted every morning and every time we returned to the hotel with a warm smile and greeting.
This was definitely the best hotel we stayed at also one of the cheapest.

“Great value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2008

The hotel is located in a great location, within walking distance to all major attractions in Hanoi. The staff is super friendly and the hotel is mostly clean, but it's nothing special; it was the cheapest hotel that I stayed at on my southeast asia trip, and I would say that it was money well spent. The girl running the hotel arranged several day trips for me and they all turned out to be great. Their free breakfast is ok, just enough to get you to lunch, but since the hotel itself is really cheap, it's nothing fancy.

“Good Location but dirty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 November 2008

The location of the Queen II is very good, you are already in the Old Town and only a few minutes walk to the Lake.
BUT
There is no elevator so good luck if you stay at a higher floor.
Our room looked at first sight ok, but if you took a closer look at the linen and pillows, they didnt seem washed. They bathtub was as well dirty. We had a nice TV even you don't really need one if your visiting Hanoi. Our AC didn't work, there was only a small window but the only thing you could see were all the ACs from the other rooms and in the morning you smelled the food they prepared in the kitchen.

“An average experience, what's all the fuss about?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 November 2008

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 3 nights in Oct/08 and had a perfectly 'average' experience. For the price, the rooms are adequate (size, cleanliness), the location is very convenient, and the staff were reasonably professional. I have no real complaints. FYI, the hotel has 5 floors, but no elevator. If you don't mind not having a window, ask for a back room in order to keep street noise to a minimum.

“Dishonest staff, ok rooms”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 August 2008

We booked this hotel from Hanoi Airport. At first the staff seem young and friendly and helped us book a trip to Halong Bay and a night train to Danang for a few days later. On the day of our departure it turns out the "manager" had not booked our train tickets yet, thus our intended train was fully booked (even though he told us the station had called him to say the times had changed - LIE!) and not direct. He also charged us extortionate commission on the tickets and a further $10 to use a room to shower/change before taking the train...which we never used since we had to take an earlier train. DISHONEST STAFF! DISHONEST PRICES! As we left, a French family had been left waiting 2 hours because the staff said they did not have a record of their booking (which they had actually made months before). I hope they did not stay there.

  • Liked — Nothing.
  • Disliked — The staff's dishonesty.
