I am very surprised about the earlier reviews.
The staff were very very friendly. We (2 pax) arrived at 7 am., normally too early to book into a room. Were offered a free breakfast and then shown a twin room costing only USD 15.
The room was on the 5th floor, yes, there is no elevator but the room was very spacious with a/c., refrigerator, TV, DVD player, 2 arm chairs, a desk and chair, free Wi-Fi in the room, hair dryer, toothbrushes, shampoo and bathtub. The bed linen was spotless and warm, although the room was a little dark there was a window which overlooked the rooftops of the old city.
It was cold at night and the staff brought us an electric fire to heat the room. We heard no noise and had the best 2 nights sleep of our 3 week trip.
The hotel offered free tea, juice and coffee along with fruit 24/7 and the breakfast was a choice of 2 western style or 2 Vietnamese style meals.
The first day we tried the Vietnamese beef noodle soup, it was very tasty and was very filling. The second and third morning we had the western eggs and bacon with the largest baguettes I have ever seen, fresh from the oven.
We also booked a city tour at the reception, the price was the same as most travel agencies. We decided on the one with water-puppet show. In their prospect it stated "a better lunch". The lunch was good but was the same as other peoples. When we returned to the hotel we were asked about the trip. mentioning the meal, the receptionist, apologised and with a smile deducted USD2 per person from the bill.
On the whole, Vietnamese people do not smile as much as Cambodians or Thai people.
Here however we were greeted every morning and every time we returned to the hotel with a warm smile and greeting.
This was definitely the best hotel we stayed at also one of the cheapest.
