I stayed in Sunshine 2 for one month. Mrs. Moon gave me a special discounted rate as a student and because of my extended stay. She and the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful. They were great in helping me get acclimated to the area, which was great considering how long I was staying! My room was very comfortable but because I asked for the cheapest available, it did not have a window to look outside--something I really didn't mind since I didn't spend much time in the room anyway. I did see other rooms that were much bigger and some even had balconies!
The rooms themselves are great: TV, AC, big bed and nice duvet cover, and computer (I used my own laptop with their ethernet cable most of the time). The room is nicely furnished and the staff always made sure to keep a plate of free fruit in my room, which I always enjoyed. Plus there's an elevator to get up to the higher floors for those nights when I just didn't want to climb the stairs!
The bathroom was my favorite part of the room. Really clean and look very new. The shower has an actual glass door (imagine that in Vietnam!) and waterfall shower head! Very relaxing!
The only downside I can think of is the lack of window in my room (although most rooms have windows I believe, if not balconies) and the fact that in the late morning (around 9) it an get a little noisy in the hallway. As a long-term student it was ok for me to sleep in some mornings, but if you're a tourist, you have no excuse to be sleeping in the late during your few days in Hanoi! Get out there and have fun!
The location is great, right in the middle of Ma May street in the Old Quarter. There are tons of really interesting shops, street food vendors, restaurants, and cafes nearby. This was the perfect situation for me, and I will miss my friends I've made here! If you are looking for a good value (I got a reduced $17/night, breakfast included), clean rooms (always spotless), and nice people, I would definitely recommend the Sunshine 2.
