“Brilliant. Absolutely stay here.”

We stayed at the Hanoi guest house on Bat Su on three separate occasions. The staff were fantastic. They looked after us very well. Double breakfasts if we wanted it. Coffee and tea. They let us in at 4.50am when we first arrived, and found some beds for us. They also organised all our travel up to Sapa and down to Halong Bay for very reasonable prices.

Climb Mt Fansipan - it is amazing. And when you come back to Hanoi, stay here.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the balcony.

“Excellent service for the price”

We stayed in their new location on Ma May Street which is excellently located. The rooms were good for the price (302 was good, 305 excellent). Breakfast is more than ample. All is clean.

What sets this place apart is the service that Ms Chau and the team provide. I have stayed in many 4 & 5 star hotels and their service would not match here - it was efficient, personal and friendly. We ended up getting our train tickets (during TET), and Ha Long Bay trips through the hotel. When leaving by taxi, we were followed by a member of the staff so he could sort our tickets at the station and show us to our carriage.

Thanks to all of the team - and I would recommend this if you are looking for a $20 room but great service.

Room Tip: Front rooms may have a little street noise but we preferred this as more airy and larger. 305 prefer...

“Great place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

fantastic place. we stayed for 4 nights in Jan and got 2 sep rooms for my wife and I and 3 kids.
All for $50. Clean, great facilities, and fantastic location in the heart of old Hanoi. Breakfast was nice but small ( coffee otr tea and choice of bread and jam or bread and egg etc. I like a big breakfast)
The jewel in the stone is of course the two Ms Hang's (not both called Ms Hang but they share the same email). Their level of service is quite amazing and so friendly. Coming back to the hotel after 4 days on tour felt like coming home to friends.
Ms Hang organised all our tours via detailed and very patient emails as I asked lots of questions. We were travelling during TET so needed to organise them inadvance but you can as easilly organise them on arrival.
We took the cheapest Ha Long bay and Sapa tours and we quite surprised how good they were and the quality of the food and accomodation. Would recommend them but you can also arrive in sapa or Cat Ba and organise your own tours more cheaply.

A big thankyou to Ms Hang. If the owner of the hotel is reading this then he should lock them down with a big payrise before a bigger expensive hotel snaps them up.

Location is perfect. Super friendly staff and absolute great value for money. We stayed in the "new" location at Ma May str and the 20 dollar per night including breakfast was perfect.

“Fantastic Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We had a wonderful stay at the Hanoi Guesthouse. The two best things about this hotel are the friendly, thorough service and the location. It is located conveniently within walking distance of the Ho Chi Minh Museum/Mausoleum complex, the Vietnamese Women's Museum, Hoan Kiem Lake, Hoa Lo Prison, and Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre. Some of my favorite meals during my time in Hanoi were just across the street from the guesthouse at the restaurant Newday. Directly to the right of the guesthouse is a preserved historic house that is definitely worth a visit.

When I came down with a bit of food poisoning, the staff were kind enough to take me on a motorbike to find a pharmacy that was open even during the Vietnamese New Year. If I could give 6 stars for service, I would.

I would definitely stay here again.
