As I arrived 8pm at the hotel (added "late arrival" on the booking form) I was told they had no room for me. They reception staff insisted to take me to the Hong Ngoc 2 hotel, where I stayed the first night (10min walk away). I had organised a pick up for the following morning (for my cooking class) and joined a trip the next day (they group was staying in the hotel for the first night) and booked the hotel to save myself moving for a couple of nights... As I booked 2 months in advance I was rather surprised- it seemed to me usual practice, as the staff wasn't very apologetic.
Hotel location is great, rooms very clean and nicely furnished and breakfast good. Free WiFi a plus. Great location so I would stay again!

When we checked in at Hong Ngoc we were shown up to the 8th floor (no lift) to our room which to our surprise was in the roof!!! I asked the receptionist if it was possible to move floors to closer to the ground floor and my request was satisfied. We were moved the the 4th floor in what on face value appeared to be clean and spacious. However the air conditioner was so noisy that we were not able to sleep and then the bathroom started to wreak. The shower in bath leaves a lot to be desired and the roof above the toilet looks like it is about to fall through. The breakfast was average and the coffee was terrible. We travelled through SE Asia for 3 months and this hotel was one of the worst we stayed at.

This was our favourite hotel out of 5 that we stayed in Vietnam. The reasons were....
-Rooms were spacious and clean. Bathroom was a good size and had working hot water! Complimentary bottles of water were provided.
- The breakfast was really really nice! We found it difficult to find nice hotel breakfasts in Vietnam.
- Staff were always smiling and helpful.
-The hotel has a bar, which was a nice place to chill out in the evenings.
- There was also a safe provided in the room.
- Location was good. Walkable distance to everything. Hotel is in the old quarter of Hanoi, which is nice :-)

For a Budget hotel in the old Quarter of Hanoi, large, clean rooms with comfortable beds. Safe, great location to walk from. Travelled with Exodus tours from top to bottom of Vietnam and this was surely the best hotel we stayed at. Also Breakfast was excellent with fresh authentic vietnamese dishes as well as western. This is the only Hotel I would not hesitate to book again. Highly recommend for the budget traveller.
