“Truly a Dump!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 June 2009

I stayed at the Saigon Hotel for 6 nights for business. Lodging arrangements were made for an entire group, so I could not change hotels, or I surely would have. My stay consisted of six of the most uncomfortable nights I have spent at any hotel--ever!
The hotel is dirty (carpets are filthy, especially in the halls). The bathrooms are old and grimy. One of my colleagues found a large cockroach in her room. The beds are rock-hard and very uncomfortable. The bedspread was stained. The dust in the rooms could choke you--I did not hear or see a vacuum the whole time I was there.
Need I say more....
Of the few positives (not enough to make me stay there ever again, though), the rooms were large for Asian cities, the location was good and the breakfast was okay. The staff was nice, too.

“Good hotel with great location.”

I stayed here for a week during a business trip and was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were spacious with great air conditioning and the facilities were more than adequate. It's not luxury but more like a Vietnamese Holiday Inn. Breakfast was included and there was a small fruit basket and replenishment of bottled water in the fridge placed in the room daily. It's within walking distance to the shopping district and the lake. I often went for a early morning jog from the hotel to the lake and back. There are lots of great restaurants (ie Bobby Chin's!) around as well. The service was great and I recommend taking full advantage of the laundry service!

  • Liked — Great free internet in the room!
  • Disliked — The sketchy "massage" parlor on the roof terrace.

“Stay elsewhere”

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on a business trip and it was terrible- dirty towels and sheets were just one problem. Also the doors didn't lock!! The breakfast buffet was the only acceptable part. I changed hotels and stayed at the DeSyloia and paid a bit extra for absolute luxury!

“Nice, Convienient Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 July 2006

Travelled to Hanoi for the first time for a Visa Application, so only needed a hotel close to the embassy, and centrally located for some of the other sights, and the Saigon hotel fit our requirements really well.

The hotel is very convieniently located to some nice restaurants and dining options on the same street, as well as being a short taxi or bike ride from the major tourist attractions. While it is in the middle of the city, its position just one street of the major road - Hai Ba Trung St - also meant that traffic noise was surprisingly low.

The staff were very friendly (much more than the general population we encountered), the service from the little cafe located at the entrance of the hotel was very nice, and the food was quite good.

While the decor was a little dated, however the hotel served its purpose very well.

Only 2 small issues - Roof top bar was advertised in the lift, but when you go there you had to call downstairs to get drinks, and the pillows were a little hard.

Otherwise a very nice, centrally located hotel which is adequate for a couple of days in the city.
