“Excellent authentic Vietnamese food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2012

I found the quality of the dishes excellent. The restaurant is in an authentic old French Villa which adds ambience to match the food. I was very happy that I chose to visit this gem.

“Interesting”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

So Ramsey put his name to this restaurant, i nearly dismissed it based on that info. Glad i didn't, if visiting in February take a coat, no heating. Duck in tamarind sauce, soft shell crab with stir fried veg and morning glory a delight. All for £20. Finding this venue on foot at night is like trekking. Take a torch, better still get a taxi...!!!

“Gordon Ramsey would be slinging epithets at the staff if he had our meal experience”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

How many things can go wrong in the same evening? Quite a few apparently. Let me start with the good stuff....the staff were charming. The music was hauntingly authentic and classical Vietnamese very well performed. But we didn't come for the cultural experience, we came for the food...and it was sorely lacking. We ordered the spring rolls, the signature Gordon Ramsay ribs, and the grilled chicken and lemongrass. Five minutes after ordering, they came out to tell us they didn't have the ribs (it was 7pm and there was only one other couple in the place). Later they came out to say they didn't have the grilled chicken. We then ordered the grilled salt and pepper prawn. When it came out, that's just what it was....a single prawn. Two small bites. And it was mealy and unappetizing to boot. The spring rolls, which were the appetizer, we're very generous and nicely fried, but more importantly tasteless. The pork and vegetable filling was dry and completely pedestrian. I admit our expectations were high, but honestly we could have had a much better Vietnamese meal in Philadelphia.

“Hanoi highlight”

Afraid this might be a tourist trap with the promotion surrounding Gordon Ramsay's name in their ads.Place was full of locals at lunch with one other couple obvious tourists as well was a good sign. Food exceeded expectations. Service professional, prompt and nice ambiance. Would have preferred dinner rather than lunch but still a wonderful meal.

Started with grilled pork rice roll. A little too doughy and strong with fish sauce got us concerned but everything that followed was delicious and very well presented and cooked.

Mango beef salad refreshing and delicious. Grilled chicken with lemongrass tender ,flavourful and just right for an appetizer. Hot pot fish stew was nothing shy of stellar. Flavors and perfectly cooked fish. Morning glory sauteed greens were like spinach and OK. Shrimp with fried shallot/peppers were fabulous.

A lot too eat for lunch but all in all a strong recommendation.

“Best Hanoi Restaurant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

My wife and I visited Old Hanoi during our 2 week trip to Vietnam in December 2011. We were looking for real Vietnam food and weren't disappointed. Perfectly cooked fish and duck, tasty sauces and great service, together with local musicians who kept nicely in the background. We had an enjoyable conversation with the new Kiwi manager and the overall service was excellent. Probably overall the best restaurant on our 2 week trip - and there were many competing for this honour!
