“Riddled with rats, dirty and curt staff!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 February 2011

Found rat droppings in the first room (3rd floor - no lift), we were moved to a second dirtier room (on the ground floor), and were woken at 2 am by a rat who had managed to get in and was sat on the television. We then took 30 minutes to usher it out of the room into the corridor, to be with its many friends. The noise was horrendous from the rats running the corridor.... 1 night was more than enough! We stayed in the Anh hotel the night before, which was a little further out of town but clean and we had a great nights sleep for around the same cost.

“Good guesthouse”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 January 2011

This is a good guesthouse than a hotel. Stuff is very friendly and helpful but rooms are not clean enough. Floor in the room and in the bathroom is a bit dirty. There is wall mold in the bathroom. I didn' feel comfortable to walk barefoot in the room. The bedclothes looked shabby and used. There were stains from stools and sperm on the sheet. There was no blanket covered by bedclothes. I felt really discomfortable to cover myself with this blanket. Furthmore I saw a mouse running under the door out of the room. Manager didn't want to refund reservation deposit even if we cancelled our booking 3 days in advance.

“Amazing Experience in Hanoi Thanks to Astoria”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 January 2011

There are so many good things to say about Hanoi Astoria Hotel! The service was amazing, and the staff were extremely helpful. As a college student, it was definitely nice to wake up to a delicious continental breakfast every morning. The rooms were spacious, warm. It does amuse me when two beds pushed together gets labeled as a "king" bed on hostels.com, but my friend and I did not mind at all. The location was great, since it was nice being a few blocks from the chaos of the Old Quarter, but it was an easy walk to get to the Old Quarter. Thanks again! If I'm back in Hanoi, I'll definitely try to book Astoria again.

“A clean, comfortable hotel in great location near Hoan Kiem Lake”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 January 2011

Astoria Hanoi is a small hotel, located about 4 blocks west of Hoan Kiem Lake. My room was large and comfortable, and very clean. The room also had heat and A/C, a modern television, and a combo shower/bath, western touches that I had not yet seen in Vietnam. The staff was charming and efficient. Breakfast came with the room, and there was a decent selection of western and Asian choices. There is also a travel service in the lobby that can help arrange sightseeing trips.

“Do NOT stay there. The hotel manager is a fraudster!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

We stayed at the Astoria for two nights. The only positive thing about this hotel is its central location! Besides some “minor problems” (e.g. rats in the breakfast area and dirty sheets) the hotel manager totally scammed us. He booked a bungalow on Phu Quoc and flights from Saigon to Phu Quoc for us (which we paid for at his hotel) but it turned out, that the flights didn’t even exist and that the bungalow resort never received the payment. In total we paid 400 USD for nothing and had to book our flights and the bungalow again. Not only did we lose money, it was also such a hassle to first find out about the scam and then to reorganize our trip to Phu Quoc Island.
So please take my advice: Do never ever book flights, tours or anything else through this so-called travel agency at the Astoria. Also, there are much nicer, cheaper, cleaner and better value hotels in Hanoi! Don’t let the pictures of the hotel fool you, the rooms look nothing like what is advertised online!
