The hotel is located in the "tourist town" of Halong city, not the "local town". This is an area near the tourist boats jetty, where most of the hotels including Novotel, Halong Pearl and Saigon Halong are located. Most business here centered around the tourist with slightly higher priced restaurants, souvenir shops, water puppet theatre and night market. This area is rather far from the actual Halong city which is not easily accessibe to travellers on foot.
This is a large hotel but rather run down for its self proclaimed 4 star status, most hotel guests who stayed here are in large tourist groups brought in by tour companies.
The room doors are old fashioned key style, the beds are dusty and uncomfortable - old spring bed with spring coils that could be felt through its foam paddings, gave us backache in the morning, the rooms are poorly vetilated and the air-conditioner cannot be adjusted to the desired temperature, you have to call the front desk for them to adjust it centrally.
The phones are old and the phone line comes out of its socket on the handpiece if you pull it slightly. The bathrooms are smelly from the severage system and the air vetilator/exhaust fan was not working.
Food for buffet breakfast has poor selection and quality, the only worthwhile food item is the cooked to order omelete.
Will not stay here again if I were to book my own room for Halong trip in the future.
