Stayed at Shagwell (stupid name) couldn't fault the rooms, 880 baht standard room( the quietest rooms face on to the small lane) with free brekkie(value 99baht)are the best value and all you need, studio rooms are good too but pricier.Problem with Shagwell is the two NOISY bars on both sides,also the distance from beach road,having to take a death defying 600 metre walk to get to the baht bus which has long delays in traffic gridlocks.If you just want to stay and drink there and visit the 7/11 across the road and are a maker of noise then this is the place for you.They also charge 20baht for 15 minutes on the computer when you can walk over to the block opposite and pay 24 baht for an hour on GOOD computers run by two pretty girls.

Although it has a very strange name the hotel is by far one of the best budget hotels I have stayed at.

The staff appear to be unfriendly but when they get to know you they are exceptionally friendly and helpful.

The restaurant serves up a good breakfast that is included in your room rate, and main meals are very reasonably priced.

You can get a baht bus or motorcycle taxi at the front of the hotel to take you anywhere and there is a convenience store opposite.

Compared with other budget hotels in the Beach Road area this hotel is very quiet.

Shagwell is a decent, clean and good value place to stay. Had a lovely, large room overlooking the pool. Not the cheapest or best place we've stayed, but would recommend, particularly if you enjoy being away from the hustle of walking street or soi 8.

I satayed for ten days in March this year and could not fault anything about the place. All the staff were friendly and helpful from the room cleaners to the managers. I especially enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere in amongst the hustle and bustle of downtown Walking Street. It is a fair way from the centre of action but only a short walk to catch a baht bus to take you anywhere
