My husband and I stayed for 5 night at the Sandalwood in begining of february. We stayed in the beautiful Amarin villa, which we liked very much. Everything from the reception to the location was perfect the swimming pool is small but with a lot of privecy. The staff were very warm and kind and the location is amazing. It was the ideal place for a romantic getaway.

Stayed at this hotel a couple days during my vacation and LOVE IT!! The service is amazing, staff super friendly and helpful. The swimming pool is great and helped to release my stress from my busy day in Bangkok whenever I jump into it you can see the beautuful sea view from the pool and it was amazing experience ever. I would highly reccommend this hotel Sandalwood to all my friends..

My husband and I stayed for 5 night at the Sandalwood in January and absolutely loved it! Everything from the reception on arrival to our beautiful villa (we stayed in the Jumpee villa) was perfect. The staff and owners were very warm and kind and the location is definitely one to go back to again. It was very peaceful, beautiful setting and ideal for a romantic getaway. Look forward to returning in future!

“Gorgeous spot, a lot of noise, nearly all the time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

For some reason, this mountaintop seems to be very noisy. Most of the time I have visited, there is a construction project of some sort going on. In the case of this resort, the last time I was there, they were building a reception building, and there was a tremendous amount of noise. It seemed as if they were drilling into the walls, or cutting floor tiles, or something. The noise rarely ever stopped. I was in the area recently, and it appears they are now renovating their office. I ate at the restaurant, which I like a lot, but forgot to bring my earplugs. The noise was deafening, as it appeared they were cutting floor tiles, or? My conclusion is that the owners are renovation junkies. It is a tribute to the resort, that they spend so much time and money keeping the place up. But, at what cost to the guests who have the misfortune to be staying there during the renovations. I would encourage you to inquire in advance, to see if they are engaged in one of their exceedingly frequent renovations, or construction projects, in advance, if you value your peace and quiet. Having said all that, it is a lovely spot, and the management are very kind.

Dear Spidermike; i apologize for the noise during your visit with us. Last August, we were finishing up construction of our new office, and a guest lounge, where our guests can stay for free if they have to check in very early, or if they check out late. During two days in January, in the afternoon, we also removed a concrete wall in order to expand the kitchen of our restaurant. These improvements are now completed. Both of these buildings are not located next to our guest rooms, and we try to inform our guests prior to any construction noise.

“um...It's more like a luxury B&B”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

There is nothing bad in sandalwood, but the reason why I chosed it is because it is the top 1 on the tripadvisor's hotel list. If you were like us enjoying to experience the different "luxury villas" in Koh samui, expecially following up with the tripadvisor hotel recommeded list, choosing sandalwood sort of frustrated the expectation. After we surfed in BO Phut resort and spa (we satyed at garden pool villa) and Napasai ( we stayed at pool residece), we thought we should put the best at the last in our vacation, but eventually we just felt a bit sorry to leave those REAL LUXURY hotels.
There is good view on the hill from the sandalwood, nice room decoration and friendly staffs, but honestly speaking, the whole facilities and the hard ware structures are more like the B&B style, not even reach the 4 stars hotel.
There are only 10 "rooms" in sandalwood, I would not agree with the term "villa", because it is not an independent house. We chosed "the camillia"( it is called a pool villa), actually it is on the first floor of a building with a very small pool, there is another"villa" on the second floor(same building), and we can even hear the footsteps in the early morning.
The location is extremely stiff, though sandalwood offers taxi service with reasonable price. The breakfast is very limited and the spa is not bad with ok price. No beach at all which is fine to me, but the public pool is still very small.
If the sandalwood was the top 1 of B&B in the Koh samui, then I would have no doubt on it. We were a bit frustrated because we desired to choose the luxury hotels (villas), and most of the top 10 or top 20 hotels in tripadvisors' recommended list are REAL 5 starts hotels. So if you like the home style stay, sandalwood is still a good choice. But put it into the comparison with those real 5 starts hotels, I think it is the disadvantage from the evaluationg system caused by the website, very hardly to see why it is the no.1 hotel in koh samui.
