“Room for improvement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2011

Hubby and I got there in December for 8 nights. Having read some bad reviews after having done the booking already I was a bit apprehensive. However, we decided to go there with an open mind thinking OK forget the negative reviews we have to experience the hotel ourselves. We got there, they made us wait a while until they finally said that they never got our booking which we had made 2 months ago. We were chilled and decided to have lunch in their resto in the meantime and stayed in the hotel for 2-3h until things got sorted out. The setting itself was beautiful but I was secretly relieved we had to find another hotel. A lot of little things just gave it away, the poor food choice at the restaurant, the taste of the food, the average service, the smelly toilets, the broken parasols outside, a certain lack of care in general everywhere you looked at a bit closer. But more importantly the lies from the staff. While we were trying to get our refund dealing with Direct rooms.com the person on the phone asked us why we didn't like the room. We told her that wasn't the issue, but rather that the hotel was fully booked already and we had to go and find another place to stay. So basically one of the staff members had told her in Thai while we were in the same room, that we didn't like the room, a complete lie and totally unnecessary. The hotel had messed up and was now trying to put the blame on us, not good. Everything was sorted in the end although I did request they write a letter confirming their hotel was fully booked on our arrival. Our refund is on the way and we stayed in the best hotel ever 10 minutes down the road from the Atlantis. A good hotel which had messed up so badly and made us effectively loose a whole afternoon trying to get a refund and find a new place to stay, should have offered at least a complementary meal, the Atlantis also failed that, we paid for the very average food happily and left kind of relieved. Shame as this could really be a special place. Thanks for letting us use the internet though.

“This Resort is a HIGH security Risk!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2010

Our room was broke into and we were robbed 24 hours after arriving! Stole all our valuables in the safe.

We arranged to stay at this location knowing nothing about the resort except what we discovered on Trip Advisor and KohSamui.org. There is no internet in the rooms, only the front office. Setting is wonderful, the grounds are gorgeous and the rooms were nice except for the bathroom in the Beach front villa. . It is not air conditioned for one thing, plus is has access to the outside heat and humidity via some designed screened off portholes. Additionally, it had a palm tree growing through the roof (intentionally) that only kept the rain out via small wooden roof that was the "breakin" point for the thieves that broke into our room and safe and made off with several thousand Baht in cash and all our electronics devices.
The local police were called in and reports were made (the police also told us this was not the first incident here), but the hotel owners were not onsight. so this unfortunate situation was handled by a new (10 days on the job) assistant who was very obliging and helpful.
After the incident, we tried unsuccessfully to deal with the owners representrative and their insurance company to no avail.
The resort did provide complimentary lodging for the entire trip, but this was merely 15% of our total losses, which they were not willing to talk about. They also guaranteed us we would receive an email from them within a week to tell us what they would do for us, which we never heard from them.

We later did some more investigating on TripAdvisor and found 2 other reviews where the guests listed breakins in their review. ALSO, they like us, think this crime was done by some of the hotel staff. They arranged our transportation, knew our schedule, the hotel safe was almost completely removed from the closet, and the iron door was pried open requiring speciality tools. (see pictures below)
Until this resort rectifies it's obvious security problems, I would definitely NOT suggest you stay here unless all your belongings and valuables can be carried on your person while away from the premises.

“disasterous management”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 July 2010

I stayed here with a large group of friends in March. The hotel is nice enough though the way the huts/villas have been build with wide enough gapsbetween doors and roof allow lots of insects and lizards to share your room at night. But that is nothing compare to the owner who gave us hell almost every day of our stay because the manager he fired had given us a 'too-good enough deal' and threatened to kick us out for the simplest of requests (i.e. ask reception to order a taxi, etc.)

Basically the owner is a psycho, his staff privately criticized him heavily but were scared around him. Simply put, DON'T STAY HERE

“Just didnt meet the mark”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2010

The owner was a great guy who sat down with us and chatted for quite a while. He was probably the best part of the hotel! There isnt much of a beach because of the rocks so forget about going for a swim if you value your life. The hotel looks nice, we stayed in chalet 1 but had to move to chalet 3 because the bathroom was backed up and there was a back flow of sewage, yeah that was not fun! Only chalet 1 2 and 3 are worth staying in right in front of the beach. The room itself is beautiful but the bathrooms could be cleaner. The tree growing in the bathroom through the roof is now rotting because it really should be on the outside. Anyways, thats about it. My husband and I werent thrilled. Room service was ok. They didnt have much of what was on the menu. The pool was dirty and not very big. I wouldnt reccomend staying here on a honeymoon but if you are with your friends and the main beach is full then this isnt a bad option. They have free shuttles which is a relief!
Good luck!

“Staff stole our things while we were sleeping!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 May 2010

My friend and i had stayed there for 4 nights, they made us check out on the last night as we were leaving early the next morning for a flight to Phuket. Woke up to find my iPhone, the charger and about 9000TBaht stolen from our room, while we had been sleeping in it. This was at 6.15am. We checked all the doors, they were still locked. The only way to have gotten in was with a key. Reception didn't open 7am, which was when we had to be at the airport. The cleaners and security guard alerted us to the fact that the owner lived in the hotel too, so we went to wake him up asap. It took him more than half an hour to get up and out of bed, demanding he had a coffee before dealing with us! He was extremely unhelpful, didn't want to listen to us and said that we were probably making it all up. I believe that there is obviously a scam going on with the staff at the hotel.
