“World class service”

When you stay at this hotel you are a paying an arm and a leg to be treated like royalty. We stayed at Tongsai Bay in a Grand Villa for 11 nights and it was worth remortgaging our home. The service with a smile is out of this world. They can’t do enough for you. The beach is very nice because it’s very private but it’s not the best. We took a kayak to the Choeng Mon beach which is fantastic, not too busy and shallow enough for the kids. This beach is well worth a visit.

“Fantastic resort but think twice about Ko Samui”

We have just returned from an 11 night stay at Tongsai bay, we where celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary so spent 18 days overall in Thailand. We wanted something special and where prepared to pay a good price and i think we got it here. The place itself is lovely, very green, nice clean beach, which is made up of small stones and little shells (great for collecting). The beach shelves off quickly, so be aware you are soon out of your depth. However the water is warm and no current, so safe to swim and use the kayak’s which are provided free of charge. Only fault with beach is that water is cloudy, so no good fro snorkelling. The rooms are older than I expected, but still very nice with lovely views from most. There was a lovely bath outside on veranda which two can use with ceramic ( not plastic) bottles of bathsalts, shampoo etc. I would say it’s this sort of thing which makes it feel different and special. The staff, and the attention to detail, things like little biscuits and sweets left in your room, and flowers on your bed made you feel very well looked after, likewise the beach/pool staff, who bring you regular ice and water, with iced towels throughout the day. I could not fault the staff, each and every one was nothing but polite and helpful. The breakfast was fantastic with a huge range of food, from noodles and soup to smoothies and freshly cooked bread. The food in restaurants was good, but if you prefer European food, Floyds on the beach will cater for most tastes. Wine is expensive, but it is in Thailand. The average cost for two with local beers was around £26 - £30 a couple. Yes you can buy cheaper in town, around £10 -£12 a couple, but due to location you need to take a taxi which costs about £14 round trip and personally we didn’t feel the area was really worth visiting that much, whilst we loved the resort we where sadly disappointed with Ko Samui as an island. If you are expecting an unspoilt tropical paradise you will be disappointed because it appears the island has become a victim of its own success, and in the last 15yrs has started to develop rapidly (not for the better). Unfortunately this means that most of the other beaches we stopped at (we hired a car) where polluted by rubbish and not what I had envisaged. Would I return to Tongsai Bay again? Yes, if it was on the mainland, the Golden Triangle area was well worth the visit ( use Diethelm Travel who where excellent, we had our own driver and guide for 5 days) and the Thai people are so nice and welcoming, plus they have been hit really hard by the recent slump in tourism due to unstable political situation but I would not return to Ko Samui again, it was a letdown. Incidentally we experienced no feelings of unrest, and always felt safe whilst out, even in Bangkok, I would happily walk around by myself at night which I would think twice about in most European cities.

“Made for the perfect honeymoon!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 May 2009

My husband suprised me with our honeymoon and i only found out where we were going at the airport! Coming from South Africa, we travelled to Bangkok first, followed by Tongsai Bay. The resort was pure heaven, the rooms, the outdoor bath tub, the view was amazing, but most of all, the service was spectacular! Mark and his team truly went out their way to make it the perfect honeymoon, we really enjoyed that there were different festivities happening almost every night, saving us to travel to some restaurant or other venues. I could not believe my hubby had chosen such an amazing place and i can truly recommend it to any other honeymooners to be....this place will fullfill all your expectations and more!!

“Spectacular would live there if i could.”

Tongsai Bay is around 30 -40 mins from the airport. When we arrived at the airport we were greeted by a waitng txi to bring us to the hotel. when we arrived at the hotel the receptionist handed us our keys and we went to the rooms. We had been upgraded as not many people were there. We stayed in a villa overlooking the bay.
Breakfast was amazing there were fruit stands that you could pick out fruit hand it to a lady and then she would make them into a smoothie. After breakfast it was straight to the baech it was pebbley but there were sunchairs and a pool behind them. If you were hungry you waved a flag and a waiter came running over to you. If you want to stay in paradise for a week then come here. I know it is expensive but worth every penny.

“Would not change a thing! Perfection!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 May 2009

The Tongsai Bay is located on a secluded bay on the gulf of Thailand in Koh Samui yet close to Chwang, Big Buddah, Chong Mon and Bo Phut (Fishermans Village). We stayed there for 12 nights, along with our 4.5 yr old son and 16 month old daughter. The Hotel is perfect, the location ideal, the food addicting and the service flawless. Our excellent experience began with the reservation office, located in Bangkok. We were travelling from the east coast of the U.S. with 2 small kids, and therefore I had many questions. JItladda, from reservations, tended to all my questions and needs, from sending me a floorplan to make sure the villa was suitable, to arranging that diapers, wipes, high chair, crib, be in the room, to airport pickup. Her attention to detail, was flawless. When we arrived at the airport, both a driver and one of the incredible staff from the front desk were there to pick us up and drive us straight to our room, bypassing lobby check in after such a long flight. We stayed in the Akorn Villa, which was just exquisite. A 2 bedroom Villa which opened onto a large (approximately 1000 square foot) veranda, which included a wetbar, outdoor bed, with mosquito net, outdoor bathtub, all facing the magnificent bay. The first morning, we walked into the main building for breakfast for a beautiful and broad spread, with every fresh fruit imaginbale, fresh baked breads (baked in hotel's bakery), eggs, thai noodle soup, just to name a few, we were greeted by the hotel's executive Chef, Alvin Tan, as well as Chef Kak, Chef Alvin's soux chef. They could not have been more gracious, inviting and genuine. The next day, my husband took a semi-private thai cooking class at the hotel, taught by the 2 chefs and immediately a friendship began. Chef Tan is charismatic, funny, knowledgable, professional and an absolutely phenomenal Chef. I highly recommend this class to anyone staying at the hotel. The chefs went above and beyond, making sure we had a perfect stay, always inquiring what they could do to improve our experience. Chef Alvin took it upon himself, to make sure our family's visit was just perfect...from recommending that we partcipate in the number of special events hosted by the hotel on a weekly basis (beach bar-b-q, hotel's full moon party, seafood bar-b-q, etc) to guiding us and on occassion accompanying us to local restaraunts. Chef Alvin's dynamic personality and love for both the island and Tongsai Bay Hotel, made our experience. We also had an amazing experience with other staff members, who were our babysitters (often front desk personnel). Aom and Micky, were our "regulars" and Nan, on occassion. They were delightful, trustworthy, kind women who our kids absolutely loved. This extra help enabled us to stay on the beach while our baby was napping and to go out in the evenings, once the kids were asleep. They too went above and beyond to make sure we always had what we needed in the most gracious and hospitable way. Mark, one of the assistant hotel managers stood out in his effort to make sure that our trip was great. Overall, our time was just flawless. In general, we found the entire staff to be exceptional and we would recommend this hotel to couples and families without hesitation. We are back home now and are daily reliving this dreamy family experience.
