“Beautiful hotel in a stunning setting.”

Had a lovely stay at the Chedi - the room and the bathroom are both very stylish. Even though this hotel is showing slight signs of wear, it is still a very chic design and not dated at all. The location on the river and a short walk from the NIght Bazaar is perfect and the gardens and pool area are beautifully maintained.
If there was one thing I think could have improved it was that fingersprints on the glass doors in the bathroom were visible when we arrived suggesting that the housekeeping could have been just a litte more careful. I am being very picky here!!
Breakfast and dinner at the hotel were great and the service terrific.
I would definitely return here.

“Lovely hotel on the river”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Beautiful hotel on the banks of the River Ping. Very close to several markets. 5 nights with 3 girlfriends. Had to get another standard room for our 4 friend as wouldn’t fit us all together in the Suite. Spacious suite for 3, Chedi Club Suite facilities (open minibar, soft drinks, beer, snacks etc), cocktails at the Club Suite room each evening, free airport transfer, drinking water supplied. Beautiful pool, on the river side, bar areas and afternoon tea on the verandah, breakfast and other meals in lovely location. Pool side snacks and meals. Spa – reflexology massages, good selection but not cheap, can go up the road but the spa and staff very nice so worth the luxury. Yoga, gym, classes. 5 minutes walk from the Whole Earth Restaurant which had delicious and fantastic.

Room Tip: Stayed with Chedi Club Suite facilities, cocktail every evening, use of minibar

“fabulous oasis so close to the bustling city centre”

What a gorgeous hotel this is. Beautifully designed in a modern minimalist style. Just right to return to after sightseeing as it's on the edge of the bustle of the city but quiet once inside.
(we never heard any traffic noise whatsoever, maybe standard rooms have that issue as others have mentioned it? No problem for the suites). Night market is just minutes away.
We had planned to stay in a standard room but were told there wasnt availablility for all 4 nights we wanted, so we negotiated with our agent a reduction on the upgrade price and were glad we did as the club suites are huge and lovely. Oddly it never seemed remotely full throughout our stay and we saw few people. However, one night the restaurant was apparently full and couldnt accomodate us at all until late, so be warned you do need to book it even as a resident.

The suite has loads of space, a big open bath and good separate shower with big pots of lovely toiletries, shame the big pots cant be taken away! Light coming in the glass panles to the bathroom form the outer entrance area menas you can use it at night without turning on the light which is handy when jet lagged!

The room has loads of room with a big centrally located tv that swivels around to be usable from any position, a large day bed inside and another on the spacious balcony terrace. Lovely coffee maker and fresh teas, fruit and nuts renewed daily and a free minibar full of beer and a good range of soft drinks. My only gripe about the otherwise great room is the perennial curse of modern hotel designs, a lack of strong lighting. There is a good bedside light but reading from anywhere else is hard as no other lights have a full setting as moody light is favoured.
The same issue mars the club lounge - reading the provided newspapers and magazines in there over evening cocktails was near impossible without decent lighting. Otherwise we loved having included unlimited cocktails and canapes every evening and afternoon tea and cookies too. Breakfast can also be taken in the lounge, handily near to the suites. Fresh cooked to order, good eggs benedict. You have swift check in and out here too and any concierge services such as booking tours very easy. So overall the upgrade felt decent value for money here if you intend to take advantage of the lounge offerings

The pool is lovely, with attentive waiters bringing water. The restaurant has a nice setting overlooking the river and the food was top quality, though inevitably fairly pricey in this setting. Green, red and yellow curries all tried and recommended! Take mozzie spray though!
The conversion of the former consulate into the bar and restaurant is very well done. Its a hotel to take photogenic photos of.

We saw no sign of any other hotel of anywhere near this quality so close to the action, only a big bland looking Le Meridien. The other big names seemed to be further out.

Everything here is top quality and very well done. This is what hotels in this price range should aspire to provide. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: club suites are huge so worth the extra

“Beauty Takes Precedence Over Comfort Here”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 February 2012

The Chedi was the third and last hotel in our holiday in Thailand. We had stayed at the Millennium Hilton in Bangkok and the Meridien in Chiang Rai before arriving in Chiang Mai and since the Chedi charged about twice the price of the other two hotels, my expectations were high. We had a club suite, which was quite large. The bed looked wonderful but when sleeping in it I found it the least comfortable of the three hotels. The pillows were huge and very firm, looking better than they felt. The tub was large and chic but the shower was the size of a phone booth. Oddly it was placed next to another glass phone booth-sized compartment housing the toilet. I wondered if the designer had forgotten one of the necessities when designing the room and had divided the stall at the last minute. Although they sprayed for mosquitoes, perhaps the insects are becoming tolerant of the spray, as there seemed to be many. The rooms are very dark, even with the blinds up and all the lights turned on. There were some pluses to the Chedi. The staff was wonderful and the breakfast included both a small buffet and cooked-to-order items such as Eggs Benedict and some of the best French toast I've ever eaten. But on balance, on my next visit to Chiang Mai I'll probably give the Chedi a pass and try another hotel.

“An oasis of calm in busy Chiang Mai”

We are here for 9days.The service is terrific and the food, Indian or Thai in the restaurant is excellent. My partner is not too keen on ethnic food, He prefers international but he has been happily eating the Thai and indian dishes here. What a recommendation! But you can have a Global selection of dishes if you wish. We have a suite which is vast and have use of the Club Room which is a bit souless...they need to work on this. The Spa has great massage rooms...Jack is excellent...and the pool on the lawn overlooking the River is excellent for those daily laps.
