“out of town but good value”

stayed in Chiang Mai for 3nights at beginning of february. Wasnt sure what to expect as i had read some reviews of it being old and tired. The room was a corner room , large spacious and extremely clean .... The bedroom was a bit dated and could do with redecoration but perfectly clean and adequate for our stay . The hotel is a way out of chaing mai but we used the hotel air conditioned vehicle ( private taxi for 150 baht ) or occassionally we walked out onto street and flagged down a songathow ( red public transport wagon ) 40 baht . The pool and gym area are excellent and the breakfast choice was amazing . I would recommend this hotel

“out of the way”

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Chiang mai in December 2011. Positives: The breakfast was good with a huge variety of food available. Was reasonably priced (about 55 aus per night for a double), and rooms were spacious. Negatives are: The rooms are very old and dated, as are the bathrooms. The hotel itself is way out of town....at least a 7 to 10 minute tuk tuk ride from the Old town walls and the night bazzar. I think next time ill stay in the thick of it near the old town. There are no decent restaurants nearby, its a tuk tuk ride to anywhere decent. The Old town and surrounds had soooo many eating options. Also, im not sure how well they cleaned the rooms as the same bit of long black hair was on the bathroom floor from when we checked in till three days later!

“Decent hotel”

The hotel is out of town and in a quiet, non tourist area. The room is huge although the furniture looks tired. Swimming pool is good. Breakfast has plenty of choice. The highlights are the hotel's 8pm shuttle bus to night market and every hour shuttle bus to Central World shopping mall. Our room package included airport pick up and transfer to the Royal Flora exhibition. There are a 7-Eleven shop and a local bank nearby. You should try to exchange the money at the local bank as they offered very good rate compared to the hotel. There is a restaurant named Riverhouse within 500m which served good food, live pop music but the services was slow. Additionally, you can hop on to the shuttle bus to Central World to enjoy food there. There are more than enough restaurants at Central World foodcourt. In summary, we enjoyed Holiday Inn Chiang mai.

“Old hotel, good people”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 February 2012

On a recent visit to ChiangMai we stayed here for three nights. Had read reviews on TripAdvisor and was aware that the property is old. And found that its really quite old- it needs a makeover...We liked the location. Though its away from main areas, you are near to night market and airport. Traffic is really bad in CM so its kind of disadvantage if you have to move to another part of the city. Out of three rooms booked, we were allotted one suit, a quite a big room. We had a good view from the suit, actually saw some good fireworks during new year celebration at riverfront from our room!!! We were on 5th floor, but better to be on higher floors to enjoy the view. Room was clean and beds were good, Holiday Inn style. Rooms are of very typical old style with some odd arrangements and furniture matching with some odd taste. It also needs some better planning during next renovation... Be aware that many rooms have two single beds, and not easy to put them together...
Staff was quite helpful, and knew English well. The concierge people helped a lot as we were having our own car and took their advice to move around. Housekeeping was equally good. Had some good choice for vegetarian breakfast, but it was very much of the same dishes every day. You have some good food options around the hotel and near night market so not a major issue.
Hotel provides wi-fi with a charge. I would reckon that its not a "market" practice nowadays to charge for internet connectivity, something the hotel management should immediately change. Hotel provides some free shuttle services to nearby places including a mall. Since we had our own cars, did not use it but may be helpful at times.

Room Tip: Book the rooms on higher floors.

“Good service but out of the way and pricey”

Went to Changmai recently and stayed at the Holiday Inn. Was taken aback when we went into the room. It looked so 70s with green walls and well faded green carpets(actually all the upholstery is green). The room is however very clean, The showering area needs to be revamped as it is kinda narrow and dim. The springs in the mattress was jabbing my ribs and squeaky. The elevators are slow esp in the morning. Takes a good while before one can get into the lift. The breakfast is pretty filing but the menu gets rotated every two days. Would not stay in this particular hotel the next time I return to Changmai.
