Aun and Tapoew are the best hosts we've had while visiting that area. Although, we don't stay at the guesthouse every year we go, they have become good friends. We usually stay outside the city now. We always drop in for a chat. Their English is very good and have now opened a little language school on site. Tapoew takes great care with her garden and is a great cook. It's amazing what she can whip up from her tiny kitchen. Aun will even offer rides to the airport on occasion. Also, they love to chat about attractions to see. We'll see you again in 2012!

I found this gem on Tripadvisor and signed up straight away just to write a review for these guys. Great location, clean and friendly and the owner even runs morning Thai language courses for travellers that are great fun. Situated down a very quiet residential street but only a few minutes walk from the best activities of Chiang Mai. The rooms are clean and airy and the hot water is always hot. The rooms are situated around a lovely tropical garden and if you are there at the right time can even possibly pick your own bananas from the tree. The owner Aun also runs Thai language classes for travellers that teach you all you need to know to make your stay in Thailand easier, I don't think I've had such fun for ages as the few hours I spent with Aun learning Thai.

It's the 2nd time we stay in Sabuy GH and we will stay here again if we come back in Chiang Mai !
Rooms are clean and cheap, the owners are very friendly and it's in a very quiet street in the middle of the old city.
Don't go anywhere else !

We wanted to stay central, so checked out a few different hostels inside the city walls from the Lonely Planet, but found that this one seemed the best. Was right in the centre, but on a residential road, so really peaceful. There were only 7 rooms set away from the road, which had all the modcons you'd expect of a hotel, such as air con, cable tv, wifi, hot water and towels, and as it's only been open for a year or so was really clean, so 400 THB for a double seemed a pretty good price. The landlady was so friendly and really helpful and showed us the best places to go and lent us her bikes to explore on for free. We stayed at Sabuy for 4/5 nights and it was one of the nicest and most relaxing guesthouses we stayed in during our time in Thailand.
