We arrived in Chiang Mai during a high season week (Chinese New Year) with no reservations. Not surprisingly, most the guest houses with decent curbside appeal were booked up except for Yindee, which had a deluxe room available for a premium price. We took it and stayed for four nights without regret. The room was nice and about what one would expect for the price. But the real value here is the owner/manager, Jazz. He is a genuinely nice and happy man and it is both pleasant and reassuring to be greeted by him after a long day of excursions (all of which he can help to arrange, often with a discount, using his long list of contacts). He is also generous with his time and will happily engage you in any conversation about Thailand, or Thai history, or business, or anything. Jazz manages costs closely so don't expect any extravagances here.
