“Great Place, Fabulous Owner”

Liam's: The guesthouse is aesthetically pleasing and truly comfortable. The lodge is well laid out with spacious rooms and a choice of ground or second floor. Ceilings are very high adding to the already spacious rooms openness. Sliding glass doors adorn two opposite sides of the room letting in copious amounts of natural light. Attached shower/toilet are equally as spacious and well lit. Modern conveniences and style are abundant. Owner is ecologically conscious! Outdoor-dinning/garden/pool are all refreshingly inviting and beautiful places to spend any part of or all of a day in. The guesthouse also has bicycles available for getting around.

Food: Breakfast french toast or pancakes are absolutely Delicious! Fresh seasonal fruit, whole wheat bread, good coffee, and cereal are all part of the included breakfast at no cost to you! ;=D Sandwiches can be made to go and are also great.

Owner (Daphne): Fabulous. Daphne is very friendly and genuinely concerned for her guests comfort and well-being. She offers unbiased information/recommendations for different activities in and around Chiang Mai.

We highly recommend Liam's Suan Dok Mai to anyone looking for a very nice and quieter stay in Chiang Mai.

“Charming, just right!”

The Trip Advisor reviews for Liam's Suan Dok Mai were so convincing, that we decided we had to try it. Oh, I am so glad. Daphne, the owner, is the mother of Liam, age 5, for whom the guest house is named. Suan Dok Mai, by the way, means "beautiful garden" in Thai, and it is. Just the right place to relax, get personal attention (as much as you want, but never invasive)...Clean, quiet. A tuk-tuk ride out of the city (and well worth if for the peace and quiet). The breakfast menu includes choice of "pancake...." DO IT. Daphne is Belgian .... need I say more? Daphne has lots of ideas for how to enjoy this wonderful area without being a part of the tourist hordes.

Room Tip: We preferred the second floor....more sunlight, sense of openness.

“A perfect quiet hideaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

After 5 weeks of traveling in Thailand and Laos we ended up in Chiang Mai, where we intended on staying 3 nights... We stayed 5 nights partly because we just loved the guesthouse and we needed some time to sit back and relax which is perfectly possible here. Daphne -the owner- made us feel at home from the moment we got there and she's very helpful. She can give you advice on trips and she also has contacts if you want to rent a bike or motorcycle. By motorcycle it takes 5 minutes to the old city centre. For us this was also one of the advantages: because it's a little outside of the centre it's very quiet and peaceful at night, and even at daytime if you decide to relax at the the pool it's very calm.
The rooms are spacious and very clean and all have private balconies in the back.
We were in Chiang Mai to celebrate the New Year which was amazing but there are a lot of other things to see and visit. Next time we will try the cooking classes!

“fijn verblijf”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012
