We are frequent visitors to Chiang Mai and usually try somewhere new each time we visit. This time we decided on a return trip to The Castle and we so glad we did, Pearl was as kind and helpful as we remembered from two years ago. one improvement they have made since our ealier stay, was to take the toilet out of the shower/wet room, a big improvement.
Breakfast was ordered the day before and hit the table at the requested time, so don't be late.
The food was fine and there was a good choice.
If I were rating The Castle on the basis of value for money, I would rank it number 1 in Chiang Mai.
We stayed at The Castle for a quick night in Jan 2012 with our family of 6 including 4 children ages 6 to 14. The rooms were a bit too small to fit another bed but they have two connecting rooms (a twin and a double) that the four kids shared and we were next door in a double taking three rooms total. The price at 100 dollars for all three rooms seemed quite fair. Each room had a toilet and shower but in two separate rooms both clean however the shower was the type that did not have a curtain or floor partition so you just got the whole shower room wet.....only a sink besides the shower so this was fine. Beds were quite firm but still comfortable. The rooms all looked out over an open hallway that viewed to the pleasant courtyard and little pool/cafe area below. The light in the hallway shown right through the white curtains being a bit bothersome and I thought that darker curtains could have helped this small annoyance (outside lights were turned out later in the evening). Breakfast was nicely prepared and presented and there was a good range to choose from. The staff were all very nice and accommodating and check in and out were efficient.
The Castle is the perfect base in Chiang Mai. Pearl (the owner) goes out of her way to make you feel at home. We had two connecting rooms to accommodate 2 adults and 2 kids (8,9). The rooms are simple, clean and comfortable. We spent most of our time out and about exploring Chiang Mai and Pearl was a great help in assisting with taxis, laundry etc. The breakfast is very nice with a great range of choice. The location is perfect - it is close enough that you can walk to the main parts of Chaing Mai, but is far enough away from the tourist traps so that you get a feel for the 'local' Chaing Mai. This is the perfect base for exploring Chiang Mai. We will be back.
We stayed 3 nights in connecting rooms on 2nd floor with our 2 daughters, 7 and 9 years. The Castle is a lovely place, comfy beds, clean bathrooms, a short walk to the old city, shops and restaurants. Good air con in the rooms. Breakfast was good, with something to please all of us and lovely and fresh. The coffee wasn't very good, but no worse than other Thai places - just choose tea instead! Free WiFi was great. The pool was a bit chilly when we were there, but would be good in warmer weather to cool off after a big day out. Pearl and her staff were all lovely, with Pearl even driving us to the airport herself when our taxi didn't arrive in time!
Highly recommend!
