At £12 per night you don't expect much from a hostel, however as my taxi pulled in to the hostel gates I was surprised to discover a leafy, green environment with beautiful gardens and reception area. I checked in and was given directions to my room, I was only there for one night before moving on to the Elephant Nature Park for a fortnight, then returning to the hostel for another night, so I had opted for a dorm room designed for two females.
As I walked to my room I passed a restaurant, gym, swimming pool, computers with internet and laundry room, all costing just a few baht to use. On arriving in the room, I discovered bunk beds, with lockers and and a little table with a couple of chairs, more than adequate for a one night stay. The bathroom was just down the corridor and, despite the presence of many small lizards, which couldn't be helped, was clean and tidy.
I needed to book a taxi into the city for the next day and went to reception to ask if they would be able to sort this for me, the young guy behind the counter was absolutely lovely, his English wasn't brilliant, but then neither is my Thai, and he more than made up for this with his friendly manner and enthusiasm.
Having booked a taxi I dragged my jet lagged self to bed, in my dorm room, which I had to myself that night as noone else turned up.
The breakfast the next morning was more than satisfactory and there was a wide range of food and drinks available, you just had to present your voucher to the person at the counter and you could help yourself.
On my return to the hostel I was with one of my new friends who I had met at the Elephant Nature Park, we asked if it would be possible to share a room and the staff accommodated this straight away, this time round we were put in a dorm room on the other side of the resort, which was larger than the other room, single beds each and a lovely bathroom a short walk away.
The only downside to the hostel was the location, we had to take a tuk-tuk to the night market in Chiang Mai, but this was no big deal as there were tuk-tuks readily available just outside the gates of the resort.
I departed the Eco Resort quite sad to be leaving and wished I'd booked to stay in Chiang Mai a little longer, I'll definitely be going back.
Room Tip: Rooms in "the dorm" building are much nicer, larger, with single beds rather than bunks an...
