“Aging gem”

One of my Bangkok favourites. I've stayed here 5-6 times since they opened. I feel it's appropriate to do a second review as the property seriously seems to lack maintenance.

The last time i stayed here the pool was so filthy that I jumped right out of it once I noticed the greenish algae carpet that covered about 1/3 of the bottom, the water also had an unpleasant smell to it. Pool area is in desperate need of some TLC, only one of the 20+ lamps in the pool and pool wall was working. All lamps in the "well" facing the gym had broken fixings and floated around like dead fish. The fake grass on the sundeck has more black mold spots than green "grass" to it, and the paint on the walls is sunworn and starting to flake. Most of the varnish on the sunbeds and furniture has come off in ugly flakes, and the wood is now twisted and deteriorating. A couple of broken sunbeds is unsightly stacked away on the roof in clear view amongst other (broken?) rubble.

Aircon in the hallways as well as the lights in the stairwell "chandelier" is now switched off, probably to save on electricity bills.

Napkins in the cafe and the pool towels is in a sorry state, some of it patched up. Several wood panels in lobby and hallways are damaged by moisture, and a moldy odour would occasionally greet you when going to and from your room.

In-room and cafe menus has been redesigned, for some reason they have decided to drop the cool fonts and design that went so well with the hotel and instead go for a theme that doesn't match.

Service is still very friendly, efficient and professional, rooms are spotless, the free wi-fi is fast and stable and the food is great. I love the atmosphere at this hotel, but a filthy pool takes away one of the hotel's big pros, I'll most likely look for another place to stay during my next visit to Bangkok.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms facing the front as they are quite cramped and noisy compared to the rest

“Making Bangkok worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 December 2011

A heavenly environment in a hellish city!
The service is really great, I love walking into the hotel lonby and meeting the friendly faces and smile of the people working here. The rooms are beautiful and makes me feel relaxed in a city I'm not really getting any rest in otherwise. The rooftop pool is very pretty and it's nice to be able to get a dip and cool down every once in a while, escaping the busteling life outside of Citichic.

“Outstanding value”

I stayed here again recently and have to say tha this place continues to be my hotel of choice in BKK. Although it's usually slightly more expensive than the nearby Le Fenix, its still very cheap for what is essentially and first rate boutique hotel. Beautiful rooms, lovely bathroom, wonderfu staff......unbeatable.....thank you again to all the staff for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Room facing the side carpark, not the front street

“Losing it's glitz.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 December 2011

This is and has been one of my favourite hotels in Bangkok for a long time. It was one of the original boutiques hotels here, small and chic righ,t beside the nightlife in Bangkok. It is however, not what it used to be. I've noticed a decline in the last two years and much of it comes down to the fact it is an independent and the owners don't seem to be re-investing in the infrastructure. In essence, the pool area is tatty and so are a lot of the peripherals - tatty pool towels etc.

The rooms are still good and the staff friendly and helpful, but it needs tidied up. Also,
is a bit of a problem with the management who can be a bit slack in dealing correctly with bookings. I've been declined at the lat minute having already booked here recently and that's just not good enough coming off a flight from the uk. There is also a bit of a drains smell in the room this time which would simply be sorted out with a bit of bleach.

I used to give this hotel 5 put of 5 but it's a 3.5 until they pay attention to detail. Still a fine stay though and I am being pernickety on some counts.

Pretty much just what you expect from a small boutique hotel. The room was excellent. Internet was free. The service was delightful. There is a small restaurant. It's not a 'dining experience' but if you just want to grab something good it's perfectly adequate. They offer both Thai and western food and both were good. Anyway, there are several restaurants in the immediate vicinity. I was there to visit a nearby clinic (Bumrungrad) and it was an easy and short walk. It's where I'll stay on my next visit.
