In mid-September I stayed overnight in Bangkok at The Key hotel in Sukhumvit Soi 19 on the recommendation of a friend. The Key hotel is in a good location, with only a hundred metre stroll to Robinson Department Store, Asok Skytrain and Sukhumvit MRT Stations. It is handy to the Asoke-Nana nightlife area of this fabulous city. I thought the price for the Deluxe room at 1,700 Baht per night was a bit steep, but a local friend told me the price was about right for Bangkok.
The room itself was immaculate with everything you would expect from a ‘superior’ room including microwave, mini-kitchen, hot water kettle for coffee/tea, large TV, DVD player and a safe. It was quiet and the staff were friendly and helpful.
I may seem very picky but my only complaint was with the complimentary breakfast. The small hotel does not appear to have a dining room so the breakfast is ordered the night before and delivered to your room at an agreed time. This, to me, is not very sociable as I don’t like to dine alone. While travelling, breakfast is always a good time to meet with friends and have a chat over coffee. When the breakfast was delivered I was in shock - scrambled eggs (only one egg used), two small scrawny pieces of bacon, two small pieces of toast and a small glass of juice. That was it. Together, it would have made one not-very-filling sandwich. I have had worse breakfasts, but never ‘less’. I thought at those room prices they could have come up with a better meal.
