I stayed in the New Siam Riverside for 2 nights last week. Checking in - I asked for an "upgrade" to a riverside room (I strongly suggest this to all - as the view and bustle of river traffic is to "die for" !) that cost me an additional $10. So room was $65 a night (corporate rate as I was working locally with a business company). I was in room 3405. Very clean, fairly spacious, all new fittings (eg plasma TV), massive shower, spotless bathroom and really HOT water ! The air-con worked well (critical !) and was all managed from a a bedside controller - as were the lights. Free cable internet in the room. Not blindingly fast but quite sufficient - - eg I talked on Skype both nights - to UK and Australia, and happily sat listening to Radio Scotland, streaming without interruption !
But as I say - the best bit is the view from the room - The river is amazing. The traffic is every boat and barge size you could imagine - tourist, private, commercial, sand & rice barges ! I stood at the window (nice bit is - the windows can be opened; lovely early morning before it gets too hot - to have some non-air-con-air for a change !) for ages- - soaking it all in ! Note: if you want a small balcony on your room - request riverside and floor 2 - as that is the only floor with balconies.
Food ? The restaurant is on the riverside and there is a little bit of (nice) competition for immediate-riverside tables ! The breakfasts (included in room price) are buffet style and massive ! I saw 4-5 different forms of cooked eggs, french toast (!), pancakes - made right there and then, ham, bacon, fruits, various breads (and toaster) and rolls, cheeses, jams...etc etc. The brewed coffee was rich and dark- lovely ! I ate dinner there both nights (late back from office - but attentive staff still serving to at least 9pm!). The Pad Thai was lovely. Also the chicken green curry. Had a few Roti the 2nd night - - hot and crisp. Yum ! With a tall Singha beer and the river-view.... Dinner stretched to 1.5 hours !
I strongly and unbiasedly recommend the New Siam River Side. Great Hotel. 4 stars... well deserved. Go there - Enjoy what I enjoyed !!! Bon Voyage and Bon Chance !!
